The American - Kansas City

The venue offers a stunning view of Kansas City and is beautifully decorated. We attended a wedding here, and while most of the food was tasty, I would recommend steering clear of the chicken. The service left something to be desired; it was quite challenging to get basic items, and the bar was noticeably understocked on essentials like lemons, limes, and various drinks.

The atmosphere was fantastic. The outdoor patio seating created a cozy and secure environment. The J-Love band was incredible, and the wine selection was impressive. I do wish the menu had more options, but the food was tasty. Overall, it was a wonderful date night for us!

I recently visited this restaurant during a large business trip, and I was impressed by the elegant views from the two-level dining hall, especially during the Christmas season. From our table near the window, we could see skaters at the nearby outdoor ice rink, as well as the bright holiday lights adorning the Crown Plaza. The meal itself was enjoyable, though the bread we were served was burnt on the crust. Additionally, despite asking three times, my request for hot tea after the meal was overlooked. Overall, it’s a wonderful spot for a special holiday meal.

I was on a business trip on my own and decided to see what The American Restaurant was like. I didn't realize how fancy it was and first thought it was out of my price range. The host was very helpful and suggested the lounge area and menu. They offer small plates in a pick and choose style of ordering. I had the duck egg, sablefish and octopus. All were excellent. The waitstaff were really nice and helpful in choosing my dishes. I highly recommend to experience!

Like other reviewers have said, the food in taste wasn't mind blowing like I was expecting for the price. The view was great, but the waitstaff could have been more uniform. If everyone served the same way it would be one thing. Only one server was 5 star elegant and eloquent. The others were 3 star at best. Otherwise, excellent service, and a great place to take your friends. :
