Bidra med feedbackMy wife and I and others recently ate at Bone Fire based on reviews we 'd read. We were disappointed. First, the good news: the servers were very good, and helpful. The rest is that the food was only average. We 've eaten at a lot of bbq places, from Virginia to Florida, and the food at Bon Fire was mediocre. My wife had the ribs, and they were overcooked and dry, though they did have flavor. I had the pulled pork platter, with cornbread, collards, and broccoli salad, which was good, though a bit sweet. The collards were fine, and the pork was too, but they do not compare to, say, Mission BBQ in Charlottesville or The BBQ Exchange in Gordonsville, VA. One other thing. My wife and I ordered pints of beer, There was no beer menu with prices. We ordered pints of Narragansetts, and then a second round. There was not a single good pour on the four beers we received. Only with the tab did we learn that each pint was $7. For Narragansett, which can be purchased at Wegmans or Kroger for about $6 a six-pack of 16 oz. cans. By contrast, in Charlottesville recently, I got a 16-ounce Dos Equis Amber for $5 at Torchy 's Tacos. Perhaps the beer pricing was to help pay for the band that was there, that, as we were exiting the restaurant, was butchering Marshall Tucker 's 'Can 't You See. ' What we saw was very average food, high beer prices, a not-so-hot band, but some really good servers.
Ordered a half rack of ribs; with two sides, collard greens and Mac n cheese. The meal comes with a slice of cornbread. We were there on a Monday- which sometimes matters in the restaurant world. Service was phenomenal, everyone was very personable and helpful with menu questions. Food was mediocre, at best. The ribs were over-cooked, flavorful but dry. The collards have a somewhat sweet after taste, and we’re cooked to perfection. The Mac n cheese was pathetic, not creamy not cheesy not worth the calories. Cornbread was dry and crumbly. None of my food was ‘hot’ upon arrival. Charging $7 for Narragansett, not pouring to the top… it was cold though. Our party was told that depending… green beans were fresh or from the can. When we were there they were from a can. I didn’t experience the 4 star rating that others mentioned, so inconsistent in producing a solid outcome. Based on this, I wouldn’t recommend it…. If only it tasted as well as it photographed!
Decided to give this gem a try and so glad we did. We arrived around 6:15 and were seated within a couple minutes. The atmosphere is casual and if you appreciate the history (age) of a building you will love this place. The floors are the original floors and the wood in the bar area takes you back to another era. Our server was Priscilla and she was phenomenal. Very personable and we enjoyed getting to know her. She took good care of us even after they got busy. She offered many suggestions since we were from out of town. The hubs and I ordered the two meat dinner to share which for us included the pulled chicken and chicken wings with two sides (collards and beans). All of it was delicious. The only suggestion for our whole visit which is a matter of prefence is to warm the cornbread that comes with the meal. We also tried the grit cakes which was yummy to our tummies so much so we got some to go for breakfast! Our friends got the three meat platter which for them included the brisket, ribs and pulled chicken with corn fritters and homemade chips. They said it was all awesome! To sum it up from beginning to end our experience was great!
We had lunch at Bone Fire while visiting Abingdon. It's very casual and has a typical BBQ menu with some interesting sandwiches. I had the Hog, which was pork, sausage, bacon, and cheese. It was very good. Service was good and prices are reasonable.
Wow. This place left us speechless!!!!! We came here just passing through the town on our journey from PA to KY. Insanely happy we found this gem. First of all our server/the bartender Jon (Joe Nathan lol) was awesome. Insanely knowledgeable on the beer food choices and gave amazing recommendations that were super helpful to us! He really knows his stuff (give him a raise). And the food. Absolutely. Amazing. My bf got the full rack of ribs (didn't finish them lol) and I got the brisket. Hands down the BEST brisket I've ever had. Fell right apart the flavor was just out of this world. The ribs were amazing. The sides were great too highly recommend the potato salad! We also got the cornbread fritters. Never had anything like that but wow I'm glad we went with Jon's suggestion on that bc it did not disappoint! Definitely recommend this place and now everytime we travel to KY we will have to stop here!!
