Bidra med feedbackMy third time in Addis and it would never be complete without a visit to this beautiful restaurant. Nati and his staff are always attentive and give great service! The food is so good! My new favourite is the lasagna. Every time I go I leave with a beautiful piece of art. Absolutely a highlight of every trip
We visited Makush art gallery and from the start the co director Nati Yohannes was very welcoming he explained to us about the gallery and allowed us to explore. There is a lot of art there from different Ethiopian artists and I would highly recommend a visit. We bought some beautiful sculptures, which they packed up for us very well for our flight. We got chatting to Nati and in the end he went out of his way to provide us with his car and driver for the rest of the day. This was such a generous offer, we were blown away! He did not need to do this, but it was true hospitality at it's best and it was very genuine. Huge thank you again Nati! We didn't get a chance to eat at the restaurant but will definitely try it out next time we visit. We would highly recommend a visit to the gallery which supports local artists, has beautiful work and also a generous and caring team.
I visited Makush for the second time recently. The first visit was last year. I ate with a group from the USA. We all had a hodgepodge of items like steak, lasagna, soup (I think), and other stuff. The food wasn’t bad, but it was unimpressive. I would’ve given it a 3/5, but the other reviews I read were positive. So, I promised myself I’d go back and order from the menu before writing a review. A year passed. Recently, the power went out in my office, so I spontaneously decided to go to Makush for my “do over”. I checked out the art before sitting down for lunch. It was so amazing! The artists are truly gifted. The prices of the art are higher than places like Posta Bayt, but it’s good quality. If I needed a conversation piece in my home I’d consider buying it from Makush. For lunch I ordered the carbonara to see how close it would taste to what I had in Italy. Before my food arrived, my server brought me a plate of bruschetta. It was good, but not overly impressive. The carbonara was respectable, but the bacon was more like beef bacon and didn’t have the same taste as the traditional pork bacon. The cheese was also a different kind than I was expect. It was a little more on the sour side than I was expect. However, it was all tasty. I ate all of it and felt happy I gave Makush another try. Service was good. My server was considerate and made several small “extra mile” gestures. Like he asked if my phone needed charging. And he alerted me that a big group was coming, so I should get my order in quickly. All in all—art, food, service—I had a good visit to Makush. If I go back, I’ll try the pizza or something from a different category in the menu.
Got to have lunch there one day during my stay in Addis. My sister recommended it and it lived up to the hype. The diversity of art that is available is incredible. I'm not an art connoisseur by any stretch and Nati was great at helping me see the different artists and the style of work. Oh and the food was good too! : . I was still adapting to Ethiopia so I kept it simple and went with the pizza, which was the best I had while I was in Addis. A great stop!
A lovely oasis restaurant with contemporary Ethiopian art on the walls. Service as gracious, the food good, but not great. The red wine washed away the day's grime. I will come back when I return to Addis.
