Brick City Grill - Ames

This is a lovely place to catch up with friends. They offer a good selection of burgers that are quite tasty. The fries are average, not outstanding. My daughter didn't like the mac and cheese. We also ordered the nachos as an appetizer, which were made with wonton pockets instead of chips, and had no meat. I am particular about clean, delicious water and theirs was top-notch. Our server was excellent, although he seemed a bit rushed as he attended to all his tables. We never felt neglected. I found it odd that he was constantly refilling drinks for everyone while the bartender didn't interact much with customers. Good service requires teamwork, and it seemed that the bartender was not contributing. I'm sure our server will be exhausted by the end of the night.

The appetizer was tasty, but the rest of the meal was disappointing. I ordered the 60/40 burger, which was overly flattened and dry. The other members of my group had similar experiences with their dishes. The service was decent, but the atmosphere of the restaurant felt generic.

I eat a lot of salad. it's hard to find a place that has great salads. I ordered the black and blue salate and it was fantastic. the steak was a generous part of philly type steak. every bite had something from everything. one of my top salads ever!

Tonight I ordered a drink called "Absolute Peachy" from the menu, but it tasted terrible, like pomegranate and water. The server took it back and informed me that the soda machine was out. I asked for a beer instead, and she mentioned that my drink was almost finished, even though I didn't ask for a replacement. She brought back the same drink, which still tasted bad. When I asked for the beer, she finally brought it and I had it with my meal. When we received the bill, I noticed that the first drink was still on there. I asked if it could be removed since I didn't drink it, but the server said their policy didn't allow for refunds on drinks that were served as described. I was disappointed with this policy as I didn't ask for a replacement and didn't want to be charged for a drink that I found unpleasant. It may have only been $6, but the principle of the matter is concerning.

Rated best burger in Ames. I honestly prefer the honey garlic chicken. Crispy sweet and delicious. Hidden gem, the Crab Rangoons and fries.
