The Fine Lion - Ashburton

Amazing food, helpful staff. Used to have a separate fryer but no longer do, which is a shame.

I was on a work trip for the night and was in search of a good place for dinner. I found this restaurant to be perfect for dining alone. The modern decor blended nicely with the antique bathroom fittings and style. The service from the women at the front of house was excellent and friendly. The starters were delicious, and I especially enjoyed trying black garlic for the first time. The main course, fish paella, was very good with just the right amount of crisp on the bottom. Unfortunately, I had no room for dessert. I had 2 courses, a beer, and a glass of wine for a total of $75. Thank you!

I had an incredible meal at this restaurant! The fried chicken appetizer was excellent and the presentation was impressive. The steak was cooked perfectly and tasted divine, melting in my mouth. The potatoes were delicious and the seasoned cauliflower was amazing. The cheeseburger was huge and full of flavor. The cocktails were tasty and beautifully presented, and the beer came in a nice cold cup. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff were friendly. I will definitely be returning!

The Fine Lion is THE BEST place in the whole of Ashburton!! I loved this place from the moment I walked in It’s very intimate and there is a person with the warmest smile as soon as you open the door. A lovely bar wrapped around the entrance where you can sit a admire the view out the windows with the most amazing cocktails We had an out off this world experience with a 3 course dinner and I’d have to say, it was the best steak I have ever had. I finished with the biggest Affogato in the world. The service was perfection. I love to dress up a little for this place and make a night of it. The Fine Lion will be my, “meet me at” place
