Mother Ocean Seafood Market - Asheville

Have been buying fresh seafood from these good folks for a while now. It is hands down the freshest in town, and one of only two places I will buy seafood from. Growing up on the coast of NC made me picky about my shrimp, and these guys always have super fresh stuff in the case. But today I had lunch for the first time, and it won't be my last! Best fish and chips in AVL hands down. Plate came with plenty of malt vinegar and amazing house made tartar sauce. Fries were crisp, the cod was flaky and not mushy, with a crunchy beer batter. Perfect. Glad to hear the lunch hours are expanding, and can't wait to go back.

I love getting their seafood at the farmers market. My favorites are the crab cakes, oysters, salmon and scallops. Yesterday I went by the store to get some oyster shucking help and ordered the oyster po boy. I thought it was slightly overpriced, but it?s fresh seafood, so I was okay with it. The bread was burnt and left an unpleasant taste in my mouth, however, the oysters were delicious. Hopefully next time, they don?t over cook the bread.

We were camping in Burnsville NC, looking around for some fresh fish to grill, we were at a small shop and a woman overheard us and said you?ve got to go to Mother Ocean in Asheville it?s the best! We never heard of it. We decided and made a call first to be sure that they have some fresh trout we were looking for. They had one package left and 40 minutes before closing time. They were very nice to hold it for us until we got there and we did and on time it was well worth the drive, it was so fresh!! We will definitely be returning! Not only they have trout they have also several other types of fish! After grilling It was delicious!!

Holy cow. Fresh seafood market with small kitchen. Seating is outside. Friendly staff. But the food is on a gourmet level. This isn't just fried fish. Wife got the fresh fish poboy, I got the shrimp and grits. Spectacular. Each had it's own twist to take the meal to the next level. Will be back.

Wonderful seafood and outstanding service! We picked up crabcakes and husbpuppies to make at home both were awesome. We also picked up some homemade pasta and sauce from their freezer. The person helping us gave us lots of helpful tips, recommendations, and cooking instructions. They also overhead me say we were picking up for my birthday dinner and gave us a complimentary order of their seafood nachos, which were amazing!! I would highly recommended the market for lunch or to pick up and cook later. We will be back often.
