Evangeline Cafe - Austin

One of the best cajun places in austin. we had two appetizers, one of which was a frog and they bleed us away.

I was here a few times and it's really great. the only reason I give the food 4 stars is that everyone I mention it seems to think that eating is super fantastic. so it's like a movie that all hypes and then they see it and it's not entirely changing the way they thought it was. I feel like eating on her. it's really good, just not living well changes. the service is at the top. highly recommended.

From the outside it is easy to overlook in a non-descript shopping center, but as soon as they enter, they are transported to a louisiana hangout. eating is nicely prepared and the staff is super friendly. poboy is large with delicate garnels. gumbo and étouffée are nicely fed and not pasty as I had in other restaurants. I am very excited to come back and try more about the menu!

Tldr: a firm place to scratch the Cajun-Itch in austin came here for lunch on a Saturday. the restaurant was absolutely popping, and the waiting time for an interior was ~45 minutes. we could sit out immediately, and there was a nice brise this day, so we went with it. we started with the fried pickles, as well as a cup of rubber bears for me. the fried pickles were quite solid. nothing super remarkable, but who doesn't love fried pickles. the gumbo was really solid, somewhat watery, but still some of the best I had in austin. for my head I had a shrimp poboy. the basic components were good, but the garnels were excessively fishy and did not really get out well. overall it was in order, but certainly not worth writing at home. overall, really solid little space. :

We always enjoy our meal when we come to Evangeline's, the fried pickles were one of our favorites in our most recent visit, chip style and very thin and crispy they were awesome. The cocktail sauce here is one of my favorite things, I get it every time I visit. Definitely recommend for the food, the friendly and attentive staff, and music on the weekends.
