After Bismarck's death, on July 30, 1898, 2 Pyrmonters, the forest master Dr. Hartwig and the newspaper publisher Gustav Bermann and the 3 Oesdorf Mayor Frese, the teacher Knüppel and Mr Baumbach decided to build a Bismarck lookout tower. He should stand on the Königsberg and be a relief painting by Otto von Bismarck. Citizenship quickly agreed. There was a committee to set up the tower which took care of the necessary funds by donations. The building site on the south side was provided by the Princely Chamber of the Principality of Waldeck-Pyrmont. At first there was a design for the 31m high Bismarckturm. Numerous associations celebrated at the laying of the foundation stone in 1901. The construction was delayed due to lack of money. 6 years later,1907, it continued. On 30.07.1908, ten years after Bismarck's death, the committee tried to recover money. Oswald Rommel,Hannover, finished a 1m high plaster model, as Prince Friedrich von Waldeck (1865-1946) his o.k. had been exhibited. In each community was collected from house to house. The savings and loan fund issued 2000 marks. In 1911 a flower day brought 4,300Mark, the building fund came to 10,200Mark. The work was carried out on condition that local craftsmen are employed as much as possible. All costs for construction came to 30,000 mark. Due to safety, in June 1912 the stone came to the north about 50 m, so to the highest point of the Königsberg 238 m above NN. The building material was Dolomit from Königsberg, which was walled with cement mortar. The construction was finished at the end of 1912. Inauguration should be May 1913. But you wanted to redesign the plateau and the driveway should be more comfortable. And at all; the sculptor works were not finished in May 1913, so the inauguration was only on 24.08.1913. In 1917 the debts were still not paid. They came from the many pyrmontians who had a total of 16,000 mark bonds 'on the back'. Then the 'Spar and Loan Fund' had a look at it and, through the Bismarckturm Committee, gave citizens the loaned 16,000 marks only on condition that the rights for the tower go to the savings and loan fund-- what a exchange....... So the tower is 27 m high. The base is about 5 m high, with entrance area on the west side. Two steps lead to double wing door with round arch closure. After the entrance portal, the room with the guest room is in the tower base. The base area goes in the north and south in steps above that of the middle part of the shaft, which then slightly tapers upwards. On the western entrance is the 5 m high bismarck image of limestone. The picture shows Bismarck as 'Roland', so supported in armor and on a sword. The image is made of limestone quaders. In the staircase, i.d. 1st floor, after 3 x 8 steps, the plaque is in wood with the inscription; 'Ehrentafel der Förderer des Turmbaus: Fürstl. Waldeck. Domain chamber. Savings and lending companies Pyrmont. Society 'Spelunke ' Pyrmont. Karl Strap Cutter, Prince. Baukommissar, builder of the tower 1913 '.
