Big Bone Bbq & Wicked Wings - Barrie

Big Bone ribs have been my favourite for years but on my last visit, they weren?t up to their usual 5 star standard. The ribs were excessively oily (I wiped them with paper towel) and lacked zest. The plump chicken wings stole the show! Accompaniments we?re delicious including the coleslaw, fries and cornbread. Prices are reasonable and staff are friendly. Let?s go!

To be honest, this place used to be my all time favorite! But the last couple visits, it seems like the place has gone entirely downhill. A few months ago, I hyped the restaurant up to some friends. So we all decided to go. We got there at opening on a Saturday, so did the person running it. They had got there after we did. Therefore, nothing was heated, started or ready for opening... We waited over an hour for our food which we were informed we would have to wait when entering. Which okay, we will wait because like I said, I hyped this place up. Even an hour after waiting, myself and my friend who both got the pulled pork were appalled that both our sandwiches were cold. Not just luke warm but freezing cold. We spent $125 on cold food that day. The second time we came back after this experience, was again a Saturday an hour before closing. When we came in to order, we were told by the same person that served us the previous Saturday, that they were closing in an hour, therefore had turned everything off so were no longer serving anyone. An hour before close? Why have service hours if you can't even be served during those hours. Last time and final time we went was again, a weekend and the service was terrible, the food was cold and we again spent so much money to be disappointed. The only time you can get good food from this establishment is during the week. If it's a weekend, please don't bother going. You will be dissatisfied.

Honestly, I don't really understand all the good reviews abiut the ribs. My girlfriend and I shared a full rack and 1lb of wings. The ribs were dry and far from tender. Easily the worst ribs we had in Canada and we usually both love ribs and therefor had quite a few on our travels. The ribs just weren't smoked long enough and much too firm to serve as good ribs. The fries were okay, not good not bad. The beans that came with the ribs were a bit too sweet for our taste (we know how they taste in England and that was not it). Unfortunately, we also didn't like the cornbread but to be fair, we never had one before so I can't talk about quality here. We did like the wings, although I doubt that they were smoked for three days as advertised. Anyways, they were really tasty and we quite liked them. The staff was really friendly and nice.

This has always been my go to place for ribs. However, a few months ago, the place now has a new owner and the food is not good. As I entered the restaurant, I was not greeted by the usual smell of smokey food goodness. The ribs now have little to no smokey taste to them and the meat quality of the ribs is very poor. The new owner is obviously using a new rib supplier. The brown beans are now sitting in a watery mess and taste horrible. It's too bad the new owner has changed things as these were the best ribs around... not anymore. This is the Barrie location.
