Stumpy's on Stewart - Bathurst

A hidden gem in a surprising city. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon with the in-laws craving Chinese food. After a brief search, we stumbled upon Hu Po.

I have been a long time customer at this place and have always been impressed by fantastic food, second to none service and minimal waiting time for meals even when super busy.It appears to have been taken over, renovated and lost its mojo.Been waiting half a life time, no friendly faces of previous staff, still no food 1 hr later and no real hope to receive it in the next hour either despite choosing to eat late to avoid peak hour.Menu is skeleton compared to previously and they ran out of food for most of the reduced number of menu options.Fish, ribs, steak or schnitzel . No lamb cutlets, chicken breast. The kids menu is not on the main menu and you have to approach the bar and wait in a line to access it.They moved the counter to the front bar, so you are all queuing around the front door, around people eating, instead of where the counter used to be, out of the way of diners. Poor decision.Disappointed to say the least, don't think we will be back.. might need to stalk where the previous chef went!

This Restaurant is much frequented. It is a good idea to make a booking. The food was good, the service friendly and it is in the mid price range.

Stumpy's is located in the Dudley Hotel. It was one of the places to eat suggested by my hotel. I stopped in here for dinner on a business trip, as it was one of the few places open on a Sunday near my hotel.The atmosphere is a very casual country pub. Staff are friendly.I ordered the schnitzel. It arrived quickly, it was piping hot and delicious. The salad was nicely dressed and the chips were crispy.The servings are very large, so bring your appetite!The specialty of the house seemed to be the Stumpy's Schnitzel which is like nachos, but with a schnitzel base instead of nacho chips. I heard it ordered many times!Overall, I would definitely recommend this place for a casual meal.

Great stop for a cheap pub meal. Area for children to play, bar and bistro. Lunch and dinner specials and not just your normal run of the mill on offer.
