Next time, I'm going to Home Spun! They have excellent food, and you can easily call to place a pickup order! I also shared this review on Yelp after discussing it with my friend. At one point, when I tried to express my concerns, they started talking about my car instead! What about the customers? Alexa, call the health department!
The restaurant doesn't accept phone orders, which is quite disappointing. They only allow certain companies to place orders over the phone, which is unacceptable. Any other pancake house in Michigan would be happy to take your order by phone. They claim to be a family-owned establishment and that they have the right to refuse orders, but that shouldn't be an excuse for poor customer service. They mentioned something about burning orders, but that’s not my problem. Overall, the service is terrible—I'd recommend going somewhere else instead!
My lower rating stems from the fact that I’m not a huge fan of their food. Since the Pancake House is such a staple in Battle Creek, I find myself returning because someone wants to meet there, but I often question whether I really want to eat anything. I'm particularly not fond of their pancakes; when I do have them, they're usually browner than I prefer and a bit too crispy. Since I'm not a pancake enthusiast, I opted for the chicken tenders instead. They've recently changed the batter for the chicken, and while it's not as crispy as before, I actually liked that. However, it still wasn’t the best chicken I’ve had. My friends ordered omelets, pancakes, and waffles and had no complaints, but they didn't rave about them either. The highlight of my meal was definitely the hot chocolate; it was one of the best I've ever had. Although I’m not the biggest fan of the Pancake House, the servers are always friendly, they offer a variety of menu options (if I weren't so picky, I'm sure I could find something to enjoy), and they're great for accommodating larger groups. While the restaurant might feel a bit dated and isn’t always the cleanest, I’d never say people shouldn’t eat at the Pancake House.
Terrible safety, overpriced drinks.
