Charlie's - Bayboro

We called them for a to go order not knowing it was almost time for them to close. They did our order with no complaints that I knew about and our food was hot and fresh. Portion sizes were perfect and everything was cooked just rite. The lady that waited on me when I came to pick up our order was just as nice as she could be. Some restaurants in the area won't do to go orders if they are already busy or if it's almost time for them to close. I'm not sure when it ever became ok to tell a paying customer that they weren't doing to go orders due to being busy but Charlie's isn't one of those places. Very nice and clean country restaurant. The food is fresh and served at the proper temperature. Great for a quick bite or a relaxing meal. I always get the omelette with sausage, mushrooms, jalapenos and cheese, with home fries and marbled rye toast. The staff are professional, very friendly and attentive. I love eating here. We have driven by Charlie 's many, many times on our way through Bayboro. We decided the time was right to stop and give them a try. We really, really wanted to like this place. We really, really didn 't. The only thing worse than the food was the service. First, I ordered unsweet tea, because I cannot drink sweet tea. What I got was tea sweet enough to give my great grandchildren diabetes. Things did not improve from there. While we were looking at the menu, our server asked us what she could get started for us. I asked her to get me the she-crab soup started while I finished looking at the menu. My wife asked for the seafood chowder and the Watergate salad while also continuing to look at the menu. While our server went to get us some hushpuppies, we decided on our main meal. When the server came back, I asked for the country fried steak (white gravy), deviled eggs, and French fries, with gravy. My wife got the grilled cheese. Approximately 20 minutes later, our entrees came. When I asked about the soup, we received a look of confusion. My country fried steak clearly came out of a freezer box, the white gravy from a can, and my frozen French fries with brown gravy were cold. I literally ate less than a third of my steak and fries. My wife 's alleged grilled cheese was two pieces of Walmart toast with un-melted cheese. She sent it back, and it came back less than three minutes later with the soup. They microwaved a grilled cheese sandwich. Don 't get me started on the deviled eggs...the spelled deviled wrong, it should have been spelled the vile eggs. I did not finish those either. Something to know, when you order a cup of soup, you are not getting any thing resembling a cup, you are getting a ramekin with one cup of soup by volume. The she-crab, wasn 't bad, but the seafood chowder was abysmal....Wait, I forgot the Watergate salad....so did they, twice. It too was virtually inedible. Needless to say, no to go boxes were requested. Maybe the most telling, the lovely woman who checked us out didn 't bother to ask us how everything was...as a matter of fact, no one asked us how things were, not even once.....Do yourself a favor when you drive by Charlie 's, keep driving. After a grueling experience trying to order or get attention from the 1 waitress from a restaurant in the county that I will not mention.. Taylor and staff welcomed us in with only 30 minutes to close with smiles and the meal was absolutely delicious I had a prime rib and friend had oysters and shrimp, said the oysters were fantastic as well the shrimp. I ordered a plate. I arrived and had my sister go in. Nobody greeted her, which worked out. She watched a man( the cook)scratch his chin, then started rubbing his face with no gloves on. He kept making food without washing his hands. Disgusting! First time and last time. Went to Aurora and got a nice plate from the place on 33.
