Bidra med feedbackI ordered the oxtails for $22 and requested them to be cooked medium. There was an overwhelming amount of rice—far more than anyone could eat—along with 4-5 pieces of oxtail that were quite fatty. The plantains were just okay, and the cabbage lacked flavor. I don’t think I would order this again.
The restaurant is quite small, and there’s a chance that the menu item you’re hoping to order might not be available, so it’s best to ask in advance. I waited 25 minutes for my fish and chips, which was a bit longer than expected. There are no prices displayed on the menu, but I found out that a medium jerk chicken dish costs $12 and a large one is $15. The plate came with a generous portion of peas and rice, which seemed to overshadow the main dish. Sides were priced between $4 and $5. It was challenging to enjoy my hot meal due to the heat and humidity inside the restaurant, especially since there was no air conditioning—but then again, I’m not from around here.
I grabbed some takeout on my first night in Beaufort, and the food was excellent. I apologize for not taking a picture of my meal. I enjoyed jerk chicken, peas and rice, fried plantains, and steamed cabbage, all paired with a Kola Champagne to wash it down.
The website says they’re open, but they were closed when I went by. I decided to give them another chance today, but after they swiped my gift card, they informed me their machines were down due to technical issues. I left, only to find out later that $29 had been deducted from my card. When I returned to address the issue, the staff argued with me, claiming they hadn’t taken the money until I showed proof of the charge. Then they tried to insist they were contacting me to return leftover oxtails from the previous night. I made it clear that I didn’t want old oxtails; I just wanted my money back. They said they would refund the amount to my card, but I never received a receipt for it. I strongly advise against shopping here—DO NOT SHOP HERE unless you’re prepared to deal with poor attitudes and a lack of gratitude!
It seems that Jah?Nya’s has improved, possibly changing their recipes or learning from the talented cooks at New Jade, because when I tried their Jerk Chicken, rice and peas, plantains, and cabbage this time, it was absolutely delicious! I really wish I had ordered two large plates instead of just one that night.
