Shoten Japanese Dining - Beaverton

Shoten truly satisfied my cravings for fresh oysters and sushi (they also offer bentos). The restaurant has a relaxed vibe, and the service was prompt and friendly. The portion sizes for the sushi rolls were generous enough for two people. They also have a selection of alcoholic beverages if you’d like to complement your meal.

Now, onto why I gave them only 2 stars: 1. The takeout boxes are smaller than before (you can check my previous photos for a comparison). Because of the reduced size, there was no room for the two gyozas. I ended up placing them on top of the wasabi and ginger. While they do have a little paper divider, it was soaked in oil, which meant I had to eat oily wasabi and oily ginger—delicious, right? (Not really!) 2. The main issue was that the sashimi was WARM! I’ve never had warm sashimi at Shoten, whether dining in or for takeout. It seemed they might have packed the sashimi with the other warm items, rather than placing it in the box last. I was worried about whether it was safe to eat because it was so warm. I couldn’t tell if it was warm from the get-go or if it warmed up during packaging. Even though the cuts were nice, fatty, and juicy, warm sashimi is a big no for me. On a positive note, the beef (bulgogi) was good and had familiar flavors. However, the prices have increased by about $2, just a heads up. I’m not sure I’d order their sashimi again in the future. At least my mom and I are okay!

I had a craving for yaki udon and decided to order takeout just an hour before closing. The takeout process was quick and efficient, taking less than 10 minutes. We tried the scallop volcano, which was fantastic—fully cooked and topped with a delicious sauce over baked scallops, accompanied by spicy mayo on California rolls. However, the yaki udon was disappointing. It was overly sweet and the chicken was overcooked. It didn't have enough wok flavor to be considered a proper stir-fry. I wouldn't recommend ordering that dish. The total bill came to $29, which is quite affordable.

Have you ever ordered any food from this restaurant over the phone? Did they respond immediately? In my experience, they only answer the phone at a convenient time for them. Today, I called again and again for almost 30 minutes to order, just in case, but as expected, they didn 't answer again. I have complained about this before, but nothing has changed since then. Will thet ever change? I 'd like to say No. because they seem to have no awareness of this at all. So I can 't give this restaurant a high rating.

Really good food. Great portions. Great value. I ordered the bento box for lunch and it had a lot of variety! Highly recommended going there for their lunch bentos.
