Aya Sushi - Bellaire

Very nice saki selection with prices from reasonable to extremely high. Also a nice menu with a range of options. Perhaps there are simply some kinks to work out in the kitchen but the pacing of delivery of the food was not great. We ordered the entire meal in one fell swoop. There were long periods of time in which we waited and waited for food to be delivered. The hamachi starter was generally good but a little overly citrus in flavor. The tempura was beautiful but the dough was tasteless. The nigiri was excellent all around. It just took a long time to get it. In fact we ordered a maki roll to try to fill in a gap in service and it never arrived at all. We finally cancelled the order and left. Lots of really high quality sushi in Houston. This place has potential but needs to get its act together to compete with the big boys.

Excellent Japanese fish restaurant in Bellaire. Great ambiance, excellent fish selection, great crudos, and fabulous cocktails. My favorite is the Onimasa (their take on an Old Fashioned). Solid Japanese whiskey selection.

We celebrated a birthday with an omakase experience with Chef Yoshi. The food was spectacular and plentiful. This was our second time at Yoshi’s counter and he did not disappoint. Truly a fun and delicious adventure. Already planning our next omakase!

First time experience trying out Omakase and it was fun/amazing! Highly recommend.
