It was my birthday, and while we were impressed with the overall service and food, my friend, who is quite a wine enthusiast and collector, felt disappointed by the sommelier’s attitude. I mentioned this to our waiter, who handled it well, stating he would inform the manager. He also noticed us pouring a lovely glass for the sommelier. As it turned out, the sommelier did not have a corkage fee, leading to a $60 charge for the bottle of wine instead. Typically, that wouldn’t be an issue, except we ended up pouring a $100 glass for him. While my friend was less bothered by the fee, I found it rude, especially having treated him to a $750 dinner for two and bringing along such a special bottle. I would absolutely return to this restaurant for the incredible food and service but would advise against ordering wine or sharing it with the sommelier unless he changes (if he does, then feel free to share). We enjoyed the A5 Japanese Kobe New York steak (which was exquisite) and the 6oz filet mignon, along with the octopus appetizer (which was incredible!). While I would rate the food and service at five stars, the sommelier’s behavior brings my overall rating down to four stars.
