Bidra med feedbackWhat a wonderful surprise! I can’t believe it took me so long to discover this fantastic restaurant! I’m not very knowledgeable about Indian cuisine and often get overwhelmed by overly spicy dishes, but here, without needing to know every detail about the menu, I enjoyed every last bite! Everything was delicious. They also have a dog-friendly patio, which is a huge bonus. Plus, their kids' menu offers more options than many other places. Overall, this restaurant is exceptional!
I love the aroma of Indian cooking, and Bay Leaf smelled wonderful last night. Bay Leaf is a big restaurant that is conveniently located on Hwy 280 across from Huge Daniels Drive. I was more than pleasantly surprised with the Karari Bhindi. My opinion of fried okra will never be the same. This traditional Indian preparation begins with slicing the okra lengthwise (Bhindi translated means ladies fingers . The okra is then lightly dusted with gram flour and seasoning and fried. The crispness and Indian spices are a celebration for your taste buds. I ordered the Vindaloo Chicken for dinner. Vindaloo is a popular Indian dish that has a reputation for it 's spiciest. But, the flavors are much more complex then just heat. Vinegar, garlic, cumin, and paprika are some of the ingredients that blend into an aromatic and visually appealing dish. The dish has an initial tanginess and then the heat hits you in the back of your throat. I thought the dish at Bay Leaf was delicious.
I'm hesitant to write this review, especially since I have such fondness for the other location. Every time I've ordered for pickup from the 5 Points restaurant, the food and service have been excellent. However, my experiences with the 280 location have been disappointing. I've faced several problems with my orders—sometimes they can't find my order for an extended period, it hasn't been ready even 15 minutes after the estimated pick-up time, or I've received incomplete orders. On top of that, the quality of the food has been lacking. Attempting to call this location is usually unproductive; 9 times out of 10, my calls go straight to a generic voicemail. I particularly enjoy Bay Leaf's lamb chops, but each time I've ordered them from this location, they've been overcooked. The last time, I received just three chops. I’ll stick with the 5 Points location and recommend you do the same—avoid this one.
I've never tried Indian food before and wasn't sure if I would like it or not, but I was pleasantly surprised! I got the Chicken Kadai and Naan. The Naan was DELICIOUS. Also we went on a Sunday and the place was practically empty, but they were playing back-to-back club bangers and it was awesome. Loved it!
We both opted for the $40 meal, which includes a bread, an appetizer, a main dish, and a dessert—definitely a great value for the amount of food you receive! We tried the Gol Gappa Shots, Street Dosa, Butter Chicken, Goat Kadhai, Rasmalai, and Caramelized Jamun. Everything was absolutely delicious. The shots were particularly intriguing and unique. The dosa came with four different and tasty dips, and both curries were incredibly flavorful. The desserts were unlike anything I've ever had before. The real test, however, was my friend. She was completely blown away and is eager to bring her family back.
