Garden House - Breckland

We were very disappointed with our experience at this restaurant. We had booked a joint birthday meal with family, but from the moment we walked in, we were met with freezing cold temperatures. It took a long time for a waitress to take our order and even longer for the food to arrive, despite there being only one other occupied table in the restaurant. The food itself was bland and basic, with my chicken burger resembling more of a chicken nugget in a small bun. The mac and cheese side dish was disappointing, with a strange herby sauce instead of cheese. There was no kids menu available. Although the waitress offered a free drink for our birthdays, it did not make up for the quality of the food or the high prices. We were not impressed with the portion sizes of the burgers, and felt that the extra charge for Cajun powder on the fries was a rip off. Spending nearly £20 per person on a small burger and plate of fries was unacceptable. Overall, we were extremely disappointed with our birthday meal and wish we had chosen to dine elsewhere.

I ordered the Southern Chicken Burger, which was disappointingly small for the high price of £16.95. The piece of chicken did not seem like a fillet, more like a frozen supermarket chicken patty. The ambient noise level was loud, and the flashing LED lights on the ceiling were unnecessary and distracting. When we asked for the bill, we were presented with an iPad showing a gratuity option. I requested a breakdown of the bill to see the additional charge for Cajun dust on the chips, but the iPad malfunctioned and we had to wait for it to be fixed. The service at the bar was also subpar, with the bartender avoiding eye contact and a lack of transparency with the bill. Overall, our experience at this restaurant was underwhelming, and my friend's family has decided not to return. The owners should take note of these issues and improve the overall execution of the idea. While maximizing table occupancy is understandable, it should not come at the expense of customer comfort. The staff appeared unhappy and disinterested, missing out on potential additional drink sales with better service. The prices are high for the portion sizes and quality provided, requiring a much better dining experience.

We visited this restaurant on a Friday night and found it to be busy. However, the food lacked flavor and the service was poor. We were disappointed as we had high expectations. In our opinion, it is not worth the hype and you would be better off cooking a meal at home with ingredients from a store like Aldi. You can do a better job and save yourself some money.

What can I say? I assume the glowing reviews are due to them offering money off vouchers if you give them a good review, as I've really got nothing positive to say. Cold food. Tasteless food. Larger, tastier burgers at McDonald's. Freezing cold restaurant, flat coke and a rather nasty uncomfortable experience. Staff seemed friendly, but didn't seem to care. Frozen shop bought desserts and awful food. Definitely not an American smoke house diner and slightly worrying when it's mention about dealing drugs in the toilet doors. Don't waste your time or money.

The restaurant is very warm and welcoming, with an American diner look. It’s very clean and staff are very friendly. The food is incredibly delicious and it never disappointed on any of our visits. They are accommodating to babies with actual high chairs with a table and will do smaller portions when asked for, which is brilliant for smaller children/babies just trying foods. Always recommend to family/friends.
