The statue of Lord Nelson often serves as a geographical focal point for Bridgetown. Since the colonial era, distances on the island have historically been measured from the base of Nelson's statue, effectively designating it as Barbados' "Mile Zero." This role as a central reference point differs from that of the London statue; in the British capital, Trafalgar Square is closely situated to the historic and geographical center of London. However, the actual center is located to the east at Charing Cross, which means that the monument that marks London's exact center is not Nelson's statue, but rather one dedicated to Queen Eleanor of Castile.
The hotel is situated in Bridgetown and offers plenty of comfortable seating areas for relaxation. Getting a taxi here is easy. Broad Street, the main shopping area, is just a short distance away, featuring numerous small air-conditioned shopping malls. The area around the statue is also a great spot for taking photos.
The impressive large statue, which is fairly well-preserved, serves as a symbol of Barbados. It is an old monument, created by the sisters from London or Birmingham.
