Yamato Sushi Hibachi Express

This is a laid-back sushi restaurant where you place your order at the counter, and they deliver your food once it’s ready. They only offer bottled and canned drinks, so if you want water, you'll need to get bottled water. The food was delicious and arrived quickly. We tried the Mickey roll, the Spider roll, and the sweet potato roll. I will definitely return!

I was taken aback to find that the four California rolls were essentially just one large roll cut into pieces. I guess this will have to suffice since it's more convenient than going to Benihana. However, judging by the before and after photos, the food was quite tasty!

The atomic bomb dish is incredibly delicious and packed with spice! The downside is that they don't offer fountain beverages, but they're definitely being mindful of COVID precautions. They do have a few tables available for dining in, but your food will be served in to-go containers.

Is it legal to charge more than the state tax? The state tax is 7%, yet this restaurant charges a 9% tax. I really dislike businesses that try to take advantage of customers. The sushi was just okay, but it’s not worth the price. Hino Oishi in Carmel offers better quality sushi for the same cost, plus the atmosphere is much nicer, and they offer free water (unlike Yamato, which charges for it). Fried rice should always come with carrots and peas, but all we got was plain rice and chicken. I’ve been trying several sushi and hibachi places since my favorite, Ginza on 38th Street, closed permanently after the COVID shutdowns. I won’t be returning to Yamato.

I wish this place were a nice sit-down restaurant because the food is of such high quality. I've enjoyed everything I've ordered, from appetizers to sushi, hibachi, and other dishes. We love using DoorDash to have this delicious food delivered to our home.
