Bidra med feedbackGreat spot to stop in and grab a bite to eat or one of their fantastic margaritas! Boneless buffalo wings were delicious with the house made ranch dressing. Regular margarita was also fantastic.
Came here on a Saturday night around 6:30 and stayed over 3 hours! Super nice and attentive wait staff. Great selection of beer and other full bar options at reasonable prices. Menu featured great comfort food. We had 2 orders of wings as an appetizer and they were crispy and flavorful. Everyone enjoyed their meals (steak sandwiches and tacos). The fries are great. Plenty of TVs if you want to watch sports but we were there to enjoy the live music provided by Wally Jacobson. We were able to park right out in front of the restaurant which was really convenient.
We were looking for somewhere to grab some last minute dinner when we came across Sherman's Taphouse. Our group was pretty large, and for being such a last minute party, the hostess was very accommodating. The menu had so many different options on it, which made it very difficult to choose from! I went with the Cuban sandwich and fries. I'm not a huge fan of dipping my fries in ketchup so I asked for a side of buffalo sauce and this buffalo sauce was not what I was expecting! It was thick and creamy and just the perfect amount of kick. My boyfriend got some tacos with rice and beans, which he also really liked. We will definitely be back!
Stopped in one weekday afternoon with the wife for lunch. Glad we did. Wife ordered the brisket sandwich with fries. Nothing outstanding, but I have had some serious smoked brisket in TX and OK. For CT standard's it's very good. Just missing that melted gelatinous collagen that gives a silky mouth feel. Fries are dangerous... Hot, crisp, and salty... The way all potatoes should be treated. What I want to talk about are the wings, or, more specifically, the Jerk sauce that coated them. First, wings are cooked perfectly, crispy with a tender juicy chew. The jerk sauce was something else. While there was probably a little more than I would like on them, it made for a perfect dip for the fries. This sauce hits you first with the citrusy acid, like lime and sour orange. Then the tamarind, which is the stage, so to speak, for the supporting thyme and allspice notes. It's only after you've had 2or 3 you realize there's some scotch bonnet in the background that really starts coming through. Not overly hot that you need to stop, but enough to make you take a big swig of an ice cold Kolsh style beer from the tap. While I forget the name of the beer(no. 31 or 32), the crisp, clean Kolsh style is the perfect accompaniment for the job. If you're a wing freak like myself, and like to try different things than just your normal buffalo or BBQ, give this citrus tamarind umami packed love child a try... And order a second beer.
TLDR: Food was good (outstanding fries , people were nice, price was ok, service was awful as in worse than bad. Let 's set the scene before I begin my tale of woe. It 's a beautiful Saturday late afternoon and I am looking for a new place to get a cheeseburger to eat in my car while I listen to my audio book. After some poking around on Yelp and Google I decide to give Sherman 's Taphouse a try. I try to order online from their website. The ordering web page says I can 't order because they are closed which is odd. I call to confirm and a not very confident sounding person answers the phone. All seems well though it turns out they are in fact open and I ask to place an order. He asks what I 'd like and tell him a cheeseburger .... and wait while I hear some tapping in the background. I wait some more. More waiting. The person on the phone asks me to hold on for a moment. After 30 seconds or so he asks me to wait a moment more. And then asks a third time. Finally he asks again for my order and that goes fairly straight forward: cheeseburger medium rare, american cheese, no onion, no pickle. I can pick it up in 20 minutes. I ask for a name and he says, David . I arrive 30 minutes later and speak with David. He apologizes and says the cook had a bunch of orders come in and the food is not ready yet. He doesn 't volunteer anything further so I ask how long until it is ready. He asks me to wait and goes a few steps away into the kitchen to ask. I am told 10 minutes. I say ok and check out the place across the street (Anthony Jacks Wood Fired Grill I do intend to try them out as they looked promising. They also have burgers. I come back 10 minutes later and David says the food isn 't ready yet because the kitchen is short staffed. I again ask how much longer. He goes in back and asks again 8 minutes. I decide to give it one last chance and wait. While I am waiting a family comes in and is seated next to where I am standing. They try to order a burger and are told burgers are not being served at this time. I of course am alarmed at this and confirm that my burger is in fact being made I am told yes. After a few more minutes a nice young woman comes up and asks for me. She appears more confident than David. She apologizes for the wait, says the flat grill is down and that 's why things are taking so long (note each time they offer a reason, it 's a different one . She says it will be another 10 minutes and I will receive a discount. I told her I was informed my food was already being prepared and ask if this is not the case she said it is in fact being cooked. About 3 minutes later the order is ready. I pay (I declined to do so earlier as I wanted the the option to leave . There is no discount. I ask about that and she says since it was only 3 minutes and not 10 they didn 't do the discount. It 's not worth an argument. The food: The french fries were exceptionally good. Perfectly crisped, not oily, very tasty seasoning. The cheesburger was good (not great and done correctly. For a $13 burger I expected more than 1 piece of cheese but whatever. The burger looked to be 1/3 1/2 pound a decent size. The bun was also tastier than I expected. No pickle or onion as requested. In all honesty at this point I was expecting a train wreck but was pleasantly surprised. Other items of note. The place was clean and mildly scenic but not exceptional. There was 1 bartender with one customer. 4 tables of customers inside (place was pretty empty , including the one that came in while I was there. They appeared mostly done with their meals. 1 waitress plus the other young lady I spoke with. I could see into the kitchen. It was small had one man moving with a sense of purpose and urgency and one women who kept sipping her drink and .... not moving with a sense of urgency and purpose. I am glad I tried them the fries were that good. Won 't be returning any time soon though, if ever.
