Rac’s is a café with a touch of art. The first time I dined in this unpretentious place, the facsimile copies of the art of Dennis Valenciano, a Victoriahanon artist of note, particularly famous for his coffee bean paintings, hang on its walls on a room resembling a short and narrow hallway. Dennis is the grandson of Benjamin Valenciano, the sculpture of notable works of Filipinized biblical characters in the world-renowned St. Joseph the Worker Parish Church (better known as the “Angry Christ Church” . This church has already been declared as a national cultural treasure and is one of the tourist attractions of Victorias City. Nowadays, real canvass paintings hang on its walls although they are works of a different local artist. The chairs and tables in this café are not plastic but made of wood to match the surrounding that attempts to be of some cerebral character. The menu on offer is varied from rice meal, pasta to burgers of pure beef patty. In an air-condition room served by a cashier and waitress wearing ordinary clothes, you can have coffee here and talk about politics, art or philosophy, if not simply have some snacks and gossip or indulge in a chat on mundane matters that one often does in a carinderia or a fast-food chain.
Food was good. 8/10 Place was dimly lit, made even darker by the color of the furniture. They have a patio where you can dine in open air, and an AC room where you can enjoy just a bit cooler temperature with the help of 2 electric fans. (They charge additional 10% of your order value for this, which they don't explicitly say on the onset) Service was slow, and requests for additional cutlery and spicy sauce took really slow for a time as ours. Decent place to visit when in Victorias.
Kory's Coffee Ratings: What did I just drink? Was that mud? It certainly wasn't coffee. I would only drink again if I had a raging caffeine-withdrawal headache and had no other options. Not too bad, not too good. It'll do in a pinch. This is a good cup of coffee! Would drink again. X This DEFINES coffee. Hordes of coffee houses pale in comparison. I am now hesitant to drink coffee anywhere else! Additional Notes: I am convinced that this is the best coffee in Victorias City. I came to Victorias City after a trip to Boracay, saddened after two mediocre coffee experiences in that place. My wife and I had been here before and remembered that it was good, but I had quite forgotten just HOW good. The caramel frappe surpassed that of Starbucks and was nearly on par with Peet's. This is very good coffee, of a quality you would assume you would only be able to find in a big city. We also received this very interesting looking banana bread topped with custard, which I actually thought was flan at first. One bite of that, and I was hooked. I could not believe how delicious the combination of the banana bread and caramel frappe was! Customer service is almost as important as goods provided, and I am happy to say that Tita Christine, the owner of this business, is so wonderfully warm and friendly. She spent several minutes speaking to us and making sure that we were kept company while we waited for our coffee and food. This is the sort of customer service that makes you feel comfortable returning at a later date. If you are in Victorias City and need your caffeine fix, look no further than Rac's Cafe! Coffee doesn't get much better than this!
