Bidra med feedbackMy wife received a £50 voucher as a gift, as it was her birthday we decided to book a table as a treat, we made them aware there was a voucher to be used. The location is close to our home and the building looks really interesting this was the high point of the visit! We booked the table for 6.30pm, we arrived on time and were shown to our table by a member of the restaurant staff whilst the other three working were just chatting away. There was one other couple already seated, so it was hardly busy. We were given the menus to look over for a few minutes. Drinks were ordered a bottle of wine a pint. The wine arrived whilst I was away from the table, I waited about 10 minutes, then I got the attention of one of the staff to point out the missing drink. We ordered food from the A La Carte menu, my wife eats fish, but not meat, so she chose the scallops but specifically asked for the parma ham not to be included. I ordered soup. When the starters arrived the scallops had the ham on the plate apologies were forthcoming, but really, is it that hard to get a simple order right!? When it arrived correctly my wife said the scallops were tasty, but the combination on the plate did not compliment them. The soup was just OK (too sweet). I had rump steak for main and my wife the halibut fillet. The steak was OK, nothing special. The halibut lacked any taste. We had had enough and just wanted to leave so we asked for the bill. When the bill came the £50 voucher had not been deducted again how hard is it!? I expressed how disappointed I was with the service more apologies. In summary, this is a lovely building but on our experience, everything is over priced and trying to be fancy rather than getting the basics right. I mean £25 for a bottle of 11% white wine which you could probably pick up at a local supermarket for about £4! Not good!
Booked to celebrate my mums 80th birthday. Our table was in the path of guests attending a wedding reception so felt like we were in a drafty corridor. My daughter is heavily pregnant so asked for her burger to be cooked through. When it arrived pink she asked for it to be cooked a little more by the time it arrived back at the table everyone had finished their meal (and the new burger was still pink inside). The rest of the food was good but nothing special. Service was not great I had to go to find someone on several occasions. Young serving staff were awkward and seemed uncomfortable and inexperienced. It felt as though we had been forgotten about. We were compensated for a very disappointing night but the evening was ruined. There was zero atmosphere even though there was an open fire it was just embers as it was left to go out (it was a cold night and some of us were chilly). Maybe weddings and afternoon tea events are where the attention is given? I live within walking distance but won’t be back which is such a shame.
Food was lovely and the service was great. We’ve been previously and the food and service has been average but the past 2 times it’s been consistently good. The staff were friendly, professional and very efficient. The food was hot, fresh and good sized portions,
Disappointed. We met friends here for a meal. The drinks were very expensive, a small bottle of water and a small Pimms, with no fruit, cost £10. The menu was quite limited. I chose the fish and chips, big mistake. The fish was fine, but the batter was awful under cooked, it was very pale and soggy inside. I could not complain as the meal was being paid for by our friends. The saving grace were the staff who were a delight.
Although we have dined at this restaurant before, this was our first time trying their gluten-free afternoon tea, and unfortunately, we left feeling disappointed. We had made a reservation for the 60th anniversary afternoon tea online, but what we were served was not what we expected. We are not sure if there was a mistake, if we should have mentioned our dietary requirement again upon being seated, or if they were unable to accommodate our request for gluten-free options. The sandwiches and scones were enjoyable, but the dessert offerings, including an average flapjack, millionaires slice, chocolate crispie, and two small buns, did not quite measure up. We were hoping for cake slices or something more special to truly celebrate the hotel's anniversary or the coronation. We believe that the gluten-free options need to be reevaluated. As a result, we are unlikely to return for afternoon tea.
