Cracker Barrel - California

The biscuits tops were black as night and the hash browns were so under done they were crunchy. Absolutely horrendous. Typical St. Marys county. "Raise prices, and lower the quality", the St. Marys County mantra.

For Cracker Barrel this was a DISAPPOINTING breakfast. I ordered the Grandpas Country Fried Breakfast. This person in the kitchen doesnt know how to cook. I ordered 2 fried eggs over medium. The eggs were runny with raw egg and undercooked. Ewww! That is why, I prefer over medium eggs. The gravy on the chicken fried steak was horrible. No flavor, tasted like flour. The gravy was made with too much FLOUR! It had a gummy consistency! Same with the gravy you got on the side with the biscuits! The gravy in the bowl is nothing but a clump of unflavored FLOUR (VERY PASTEY, ! Doesnt taste or have the consistency of gravy! The biscuits could have been cooked another 2 or 3 minutes. Lightly browned and fell apart with a almost too soft center! I wanted a hearty breakfast! Need a better cook in the kitchen! Very seldom, have I been disappointed with Cracker Barrel. What a waste of money!

Cracker Barrel's Southern Fried Chicken ranks among the best I've ever had! The meal comes with four pieces of chicken served with honey. Today, I received two breasts, a leg, and a wing, which I assume was because they were out of thighs. The chicken is packed with flavor, thanks to their unique seasoning. I could only manage to eat one breast along with my sides. I opted for the macaroni and cheese and loaded mashed potatoes. The macaroni and cheese was fantastic! The mashed potatoes, on the other hand, had a texture similar to that of a baked potato, both in appearance and taste. They definitely don’t contain milk, so they lack that homemade creamy texture you'd expect from traditional mashed potatoes, but they were still quite tasty. I had plenty of chicken and biscuits left over for later. I would highly recommend this meal if you're looking for something different from typical fast food chicken, and they have an extensive list of delicious sides to choose from.

I ordered the Momma's French Toast Breakfast and the Mmmm Mac n’ Cheese. Unfortunately, the food arrived cold. The mac n’ cheese had pieces of burnt cheese, which was disappointing, especially since it was for my daughter, who politely removed the burnt bits. I'm very disappointed because Cracker Barrel is a family favorite! However, I will still order again, as this has never happened before, and I won't hold a grudge over one bad experience. Everyone has an off day, and usually, both dishes I ordered are hot and delicious!

I’m giving this place 4 stars mainly because I asked for sweet tea and it wasn’t sweetened. However, the food was fantastic! I ordered the Homestyle Chicken and French Toast, and there was plenty of French toast, cooked to perfection! They also provide pure maple syrup, which was a nice touch. The chicken was surprisingly amazing—so delicious! The batter was crunchy, but not overly so, and the seasoning was fantastic, with the chicken being nice and tender. I also had two eggs over medium, which were cooked just right. If you're torn between breakfast or lunch, this is a great choice! I would definitely recommend it!
