Nick’s On State - Carlsbad

The food, service, and ambiance is always great, in my experience. A bit pricey but not extreme compared to other restaurants.

I took to friends for lunch… their first time at Nicks’s. They loved the Spicey Thai salad, fried asparagus. I had the delicious prime rib dip sandwich… delish. We tried the butter cake dessert… DELISH. They are coming back … as am I with the hubs.

Menu was innovative and food was very good, but noise level was so high I could barely talk to my friend. Won’t be going back because of noise.

I reaaaaalllyyy wanted to give 5 stars considering I love Nicks and used to go to the one in Laguna all the time however I was so disappointed that they ran out of the meatloaf which I initially wanted to order. I then ordered the cioppino which was my second choice and the waiter told me after I had placed the order that they were running out of ingredients… which at that point he should have disclosed this before I ordered. It was all fish, and was supposed to come with mussels and clams and there was not one in sight. For $34 dollars I would hope it would have all been there considering it was listed on the menu. It was okay… just very overwhelming with the amount of fish they used which I assume was to distract from the missing mussels and clams. Didn’t really realize this until after I left and looked at the menu again to confirm. My husbands dish (salmon, mashed potatoes and spinach) was delicious and so were the shrimp taquitos and espresso martini. I think maybe we just went on a weird night or too late? I’m bummed.

Food was great! Great price point. My server Cyrus was on point with recommendations and very pleasant. Will definitely be back great first impression! Highly recommend
