Koto Japanese Steak House - Carmel

I typically do not write reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience at this restaurant. We dined by the water in a section surrounded by tall walls. Despite my discomfort, we stayed due to my wife's insistence. The service was slow, the food was overpriced and the portions did not match the cost. The sushi was also subpar. There are better sushi places available and we will not be returning. This feedback is meant to provide a realistic expectation for future customers.

My family and I finally visited Koto, a restaurant I had been eyeing for months. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from the start. When we called to inquire about the wait time, the person on the phone was rude and hung up on us, leaving a bad impression. Despite this, we decided to dine there because I had received a voucher in the mail. The restaurant's interior was lovely, with a spacious dining area and a large Koi pond. It was not very busy when we arrived at 5:55 PM. However, we had to wait a long time for the waitress to take our order after our drinks were served. The sushi we ordered was subpar, not as good as other sushi restaurants in the area and overpriced. When the bill came, I gave the waitress my card and the voucher, but she refused to honor it and suggested I use it next time. Given the poor service and mediocre food, there will not be a next time for us at Koto.

The ambiance at the carryout restaurant may not have been notable, but the food was excellent. The prices were fair considering the quality and presentation. The staff was very polite. We left feeling refreshed and satisfied.

Koto went out of their way to make lunch after my Sons wedding very special! We were running late and they were very accomodating and didn't rush us. The person on the hibachi grill gave us an extra special show, the waitress was right there when we needed something and the food was delicious! It was a special day that we will never forget. Thank you so much Koto!! We will be back again and again!!
