Katy's Place - Carmel-by-the-Sea

This cafe only accepts cash, and they don't inform you of that when you sit down. I noticed it tucked away in a corner of the menu after I had already ordered and started my coffee. Fortunately, I had just enough cash for the coffee, but not for food. They mentioned there was an ATM nearby, but I didn't want to leave my table, walk to the ATM, and then return to eat. The menu seemed appealing, but the cash-only policy is absurd. After finishing my coffee, I had to search for another place to eat. Who runs a cash-only business in 2023?

The service was quick, but the food was just average and the prices were quite steep. We spent $50 on breakfast for two, and that was without coffee, juice, or mimosas—just water! If the food had been exceptional, I might have felt it was worth it. To make matters worse, you have to wait to pay at the counter, and the cashier also collects the tips.

This place is fantastic! We visited for three consecutive days and sampled three different breakfasts, all of which were exceptional. Everything is genuine and served with care — nothing felt rushed or artificial!

Used to be my favorite breakfast spot in Carmel, but they keep disappointing me lately. The food is okay, but the service is just not good for the price level of this restaurant. No attention and condescending behavior. Dirty plates, mugs and silverware. If I pay 50 dollars, per person cash for breakfast, I'd at least want to be treated like I'm welcome and not a burden.

Katy’s place provides a wonderful brunch experience. All of the food is wonderful and it was almost impossible to chose something to order because everything looked so good. The service is acceptable but not the best. I would highly suggest that all brunch lovers experience this delightful location.
