Bear's Paw - Cheshire East

This restaurant appears to be a popular spot for locals to gather. We enjoyed a delightful meal there, with the starters in particular standing out as excellent. The house beers on tap were also quite good.

Food great! Rooms were lovely however we found the staff to be quite abrupt, verging on rude at times. We booked for a party of 18 to eat and had 5 rooms to stay over for my sons 21st birthday. We were shocked and slightly disheartened when we were asked to leave the bar and go to our rooms at half past 10 on a Saturday night. Would highly recommend for a quiet night with nice food but was a bit disappointing for us as we were hoping for a nice sociable evening with family.

Arrived and nobody to greet us, we went to the bar and asked if we could sit down for a meal. A lady told us to sit and brought us a menu. We got our own drinks from the bar and it didn 't look like anybody was coming to take our order so we ordered at the bar after a lengthy wait. We ate and asked for our bill. We paid and after I looked at the bill and was alarmed to see a 'tip jar ' already added to the bill without a choice. The staff literally placed a plate on our table, we got our own drinks and ordered our own food. Not wanting to create a fuss I contacted the pub via their website for an explanation and they never got back to me, I messaged them again today. nothing! I gave them a chance to rectify their cheeky tip and they didn 't, so I had no choice but to make people aware. I would like a refund of it, however small as this just isn 't on. the staff are paid to do a job, just like I am. Why be paid twice?

A place I have visited many times with friends over the years, and not once have I come away disappointed. We all ate from the Christmas menu so nice to keep that going on the 28th by the way and the food was excellent. My party of three are not the easiest to cater for (a vegetarian, a lactose free, and a 17 year old with an aversion to vegetables) but our server was very helpful, as they always are here. Thank you for a great lunch, we will be back!

Upon arrival from the car park, I was greeted by a very strong odour of wet dog at the entrance at the back. Not the best preparation for dinner. The dogs in the pub didn’t really bother me, and the feed was OK, but given the cost of the dinner, it was an extraordinary price for a fairly bland offering. My biggest issue is the service, it was rushed, like they wanted to get us out as quickly as possible. I definitely won’t be going back. In all other respects, it was OK, nothing more.
