Bidra med feedbackI've had the pleasure of dining here twice- once for a family reunion and the other for a birthday. The food is incredible-very authentically Calabrian. Be ready to sit and eat for a few hours! They just keep bringing out plate after plate... you can't resist! Everything is served family style. For the small amount they charge per person you have a feast. I like the fact that when you book a reservation (it's reservations only) the menu is a set menu; based on seasonal products. Everything is made or grown by the Barone family in house- from the wine, to the deli, to the produce, etc. If they don't grow it, it is bought locally. The Barone family who run the place are very accommodating if you have any dietary restrictions or requests-just be sure to tell them when you book. (They only speak Italian.)The location itself is very rustic, a little off the beaten track but that's the appeal of it! The views are beautiful-deep within the Calabrian countryside. I would say that Agrilupi Barone is more of a restaurant/ venue space. It's big enough to host a wedding, engagement, or any other type of party. They have a small patio and a large gravel terrace. They even have a separate building on the property with a handful of rooms for overnight guests. Nothing is really within walking distance, but many villages/ towns and the beach are a short drive away.Definitely, 100% returning! This restaurant is an agriturismo which is farm to table. They can accommodate large groups and would be perfect for tour/bus companies driving through for a lunch stop for a few hours. A hidden gem! Check out their facebook page for photos and contact info.
Let me start by saying that I was born in Lago, Cosenza a short distance away. In fact my cousins Franco and Emiliana own and operate the Agriturismo. This was my first time back to Italy and my hometown in 60 years. While this review may appear biased, believe me the setting, service and food was fantastic! The opportunity to meet and eat with family, most of whom I had never met, in a beautiful country setting was the best way end our 22 days in Italy. Franco's skill at preparing authentic southern Italian antipastas, primi and secondi platters, dolce, and aperitifs was matched by friendly service by Emiliana and her children. Words alone cannot express the gratitude my wife, daughter and I have for the opportunity to meet family in the tranquil setting of the Agriturismo Agrilupi. If you plan to visit or stay along the southern Italian coast from Amantea to Tropea, take the opportunity to visit Agrilupi Barone!
