Bidra med feedbackPuerto Rican eating places often come and go in the LA area. And, there has always been very few of them, totally unlike ie back in “Puerto Rican New York”. Señor Big Ed is one establishment that has been here for years. Outstanding Puerto Rican dishes (as well as Mexican dishes). Great service and a clean restaurant. Good, reasonable prices. Also, a display of Puerto Rican stickers and flags, etc for sale. Highly recommended, wepa!
Food was excellent and service was very good and very fast, even on Mothers Day. I will be back, and definitely will recommend this cool Puerto Rican restaurant.
I'm sad to say my experience here was not satisfying. The food lacked in flavor, presentation and taste. The black beans were straight out of a can with no Puerto Rican seasoning. As you know the beans are a staple of Puerto Rico. It was offensive to serve beans in that fashion. The Maduros were frozen and the empanadas (beef) did not taste good with no seasoning . Even the waiter stated that people question where the potato and olives were in the empandas. The so called Pernel was nothing but sliced pork loin when I was assured it was a pork shoulder. The mofongo was not even crispy but soggy and mushy with no chicharron. There are a few items that were good...the tostones and....the tostones...well the tostones. The star of the show was our waiter/cashier/busboy/host, he was very kind and patient. And the one doing everything.
Food is very delicious and flavorful. Server/ hostess was great . She really informed us about the menu and what she recommended. I got the carne guisada with 2 tostones and 2 plantains with Spanish rice and pigeon peas and pork. My wife got the canoa de platano with the same sides and mine. The main dishes were soooooo goooood the beef stew was so tender and soft with full of flavor. Same with my wife banana boat so delicious with so much flavor. The habichuelas were delicious. Rice was a bit dry but had a great taste. We also ordered and Puerto Rican tamal (Plantain tamal with pork). It was so good too. I can't wait to come back and enjoy this delicious meal again! Drink selection is decent. The restaurant is pretty clean and nice ambiance. The restrooms don't smell which is a plus and they were clean.
I am happy to have found this Puertorican restaurant. They have generous portions and the food is tasty. The reason for the 4 instead of 5 was that it was too salty. It would have been nice to have less salt and more sofrito for the arroz con gandules. The tostones could have been fried a little longer or made a little thinner. The mofongo was also salty and the platanos inside could have been cooked a little longer.. The Pernil was great. Overall I enjoyed the meal. Friendly people. Thanks.
