Bidra med feedbackUna's in Kings Cross (Sydney) offers hearty, home-cooked style dinners and lunches with a focus on German, Hungarian, and Austrian cuisine. The portion sizes are generous, making it a great spot for a filling dinner. Specialties include the Pork-Knuckle and Chicken Schnitzel. Una's is BYO, so you can enjoy your own wine with your meal. The restaurant has been serving traditional home-style cuisine for over 50 years, so you know they're doing something right. Don't expect fancy decor, just delicious food. I loved it.
Una's is something of a Darlinghurst institution, having been in this location for decades. There is also something of a tradition of abrupt or brusque service. I was forewarned by the friends who took us there and right on cue, the waiter appeared and was...predictably grumpy. It was a bit like finding yourself in the middle of a Fawlty Towers episode so it amused us. It’s not personal and I think it’s just part of their schtick. The food is home-style Austrian cooking. Lots of schnitzels, rosti, cabbage and apple strudel and schnapps. Saying that the servings are generous is an understatement. The schnitzel was as big as my head. We ordered entrees as well which meant we had way too much food and were reliant on our sons to polish everything off. One thing I'd try to avoid in the future is ordering too many crumbed, fried dishes. We started with fried camembert and crumbed mushrooms as entrees but most of us were also having schnitzels so we should have thought this through more carefully. It is worth noting that you cannot book ahead. When we arrived, there was a queue so we had to wait outside on the street. However, the line was well organised and moved quickly. They estimated upfront that we would probably have to wait about half an hour and this was pretty accurate. The other big plus is that it’s right across the road from Gelato Messina, which is always a good thing.
I visited this restaurant on Sunday, October 11th around 1:30pm, which was a very quiet day. My party of two asked for a table and the waitress, who wore glasses, told us we could sit either by the window or inside. We chose a four-seater table away from other customers, assuming it wouldn't be an issue since the restaurant was quiet. However, the waitress abruptly told us we could only sit at a window table or a two-seater table. I was taken aback by her rudeness, as we had not been informed of this rule earlier and it could have been communicated more politely. What surprised me even more was when two older white men arrived ten minutes later and were given a four-seater table. I was shocked by the inconsistency in treatment. If you are considering dining here, I would like to point out that Sydney has many great restaurants where customers are treated well. Especially during the pandemic, it is important for businesses to be courteous to their patrons or risk losing business.
I had the worst table services in the restaurant today! When I arrived with my friends, they request us to wait outside because of COVID-19 restriction! Fair enough, we decided to wait outside the bench! I decided to get a Messina ice cream across the...road, by the time I got back to the bench, the waitress yelling at me: you need to finish your ice cream now at the front of everyone! I put up with it, got inside the restaurant, sit down, foods arrived! Don’t get me wrong, foods were great, but when I request three take away boxes to test her: she gave me the weird look and say: now you need three take away boxes, do you need three take away bag? And I’m like is that necessary to talk to your customer like this? She treated the white on the spot so nicely but pick on the Asian! Where is the racist in not tolerant in this Australia! And I reckon she should be Fire instantly! Haven’t said that: the take away boxes that I requested is for soup, but she didn’t ask what was the boxes for! She charged us 1.50 for take away boxes that cannot take away soups! Worst worst worst customer service, I cannot believe the boses from UNA let her get away with it! We are in pandanmic crisis, everyone should be treating each other nicely! Food were great, but would I go back to get treated badly! Absolutely no! For those who had problem with racist! Please report her! And do not ever got back to UNA!
Came in for a Sunday lunch and signed into the covid sign in book and stood there for a few minutes while a waitress walked by me and ignored me. I could see other waitress mulling around the kitchen chatting and ignoring me. Then a...waitress came out running food and by passed me while I stood there waiting to be greeted and seated. Eventually a surly looking waitress came out and I had to approach her about sitting at a table. I was told then by this abrupt and unfriendly waitress that there was a queue and I had to wait. Nice to be finally told only after inquiring and in such a rude and unfriendly manner. I understand in Covid we need to adhere to spacing and that restaurants can only fit 25 at a time which is what I was told but it was the manner in how it was said. I was made to feel as if I didn’t matter and that my was not wanted and I was a nuisance for being there. Zero hospitality. Been to Unas many times over the years and won’t be returning after this. In these Covid times restaurants can not afford bad wait staff. I simply will spend my somewhere else. And I suggest if ur looking for a Sunday lunch venue there are plenty of other restaurants where u will receive a welcoming friendly service. To Unas get rid of those two old waitress u have working there on Sunday lunch. Worst service
