Bidra med feedbackArriving in Deer Lake after a long journey we were happy to find the Deer Lake Motel restaurant open till 10 PM and so was the bar.Service was friendly, but a bit slow. It was Wednesday, AKA "Wing Night." My husband enjoyed the $6 basket of juicy, spicy wings and a beer and I had my introduction to Cow tongue. If you are not from Newfoundland you may not know what this is and I suggest you try it: Pan fried crispy on the outside moist on the inside, not really cod tongue, but rather the cheek of the fish. Yes, my friend this is good stuff! I love my soup thick and theirs did not disappoint. The traditional Pea soup and Seafood soup were so, so thick and smooth and delicious, I could stand my spoon up in it. Oh and breakfast, included in our motel stay was buffet style. I had my first experience eating Touton, again if you are not from Newfoundland you may not know what this is; think beignet or frybread or zeppoli. If you like any of these fried breads you will like toutons. Breakfast offerings were more than adequate and also included eggs, cereals, breads, pastry, fruit and meat and much more. Coffee was strong and smooth.
We had the choice between fast-food and that... the waitress was so nice and she advised us a local dish, a cod language. It's okay, we have to try it. the fish
On the Trans Canada Highway just west of Hwy 430 junction. Our restaurant of choice in Deer Lake. Very good variety of menu offerings and food quality, friendly servers, reasonable prices. Definitely recommended.
Came r commended by our hotel. The food did not disappoint. Very quick service. Caesar salad. Lasagna hot turkey and loaded potatoes. All very good
The menu was comprehensive and covered all the traditional meals one would expect with the addition of typical Newfoundland cuisine. Prices were reasonable. There are few restaurants i Deer Lake and i think this was at least one of the better places. They did accommodate large groups. I had a steak dinner which was well done instead of medium rare but still taste fine. The waitress did offer to have it redone, without any fuss, but i elected not to spoil food and really only wanted to cook staff to be aware. Convenient on the Trans Canada highway.
