Bidra med feedbackI've had an amazing experience with the food on both visits to this restaurant. The owner, Tim, is fantastic and very personable, and he pays great attention to detail in creating a welcoming atmosphere that feels like a home away from home. From the decor to the menu and the attentive service, everything is spot on. They offer classic supper club glasses and serve phenomenal brandy old fashioneds. The portions are generous, and the cod for the Friday night fish fry is excellent, with a perfectly light breading. The sides—potato cakes, coleslaw, sweet corn, and mashed potatoes—were all outstanding. Everything my group ordered was incredible, including the massive portions of fried chicken and a tender, juicy pork chop. I highly recommend this place! I know I'll be returning many times!
As soon as we walked in, the team at Shanty’s greeted us warmly and invited us to pick our table, assuring us they would follow us to wherever we chose to sit. We genuinely appreciated this because it allowed us to avoid being cramped in a corner; we ended up sharing a cozy booth with a lovely view of the bar and a stunning mural. Shortly after settling in, our waitress brought us charming drinkware for our water and presented the menus, which featured an impressive selection of delicious dishes. Since we were there for Restaurant Week, we plan to return for more, but we stuck with our predetermined choices this time. For appetizers, we ordered Pretzel Bites and Fried Cheese Curds—because honestly, if you're visiting a Wisconsin restaurant and skip the cheese curds, are you really making the most of it? The mustard sauce accompanying the pretzel bites was absolutely fantastic, even surpassing the cheese sauce, in our opinion. And the cheese curds? They were simply delightful, with the chewy texture reminiscent of those from Madison, WI. For our entrees, we opted for the Chicken Pot Pie and Fried Chicken. Both dishes did not disappoint. The Pot Pie was a clever deconstructed version, featuring two puff pastries and a rich cream sauce brimming with steamed vegetables, mushrooms, and chicken. The Fried Chicken came with three pieces of "Shanty" fried chicken and two sides. It was juicy and flavorful—though I wish the mashed potatoes and corn had a bit more salt, but I typically prefer a saltier taste. As for the corn, a touch more sweetness would have been nice, but overall, I would choose both dishes again. For dessert, we were blown away by our selections: Bread Pudding with whiskey sauce and Carrot Cake with cream cheese frosting. They were so delicious that we forgot to snap any pictures! If we return, I would likely choose the bread pudding over the carrot cake, as the latter was a bit on the sweeter side, while the bread pudding made for the perfect post-dinner treat. Lastly, if you're looking for a cocktail, the boozy cider is a delightful option on a chilly evening. Overall, this place is amazing. The atmosphere is friendly, local, and relaxed, with delicious food served with a homey touch amidst a bar filled with familiar faces.
This was my first time here, and it was fantastic! The portions were very generous, the food was excellent, and the service was wonderful. We'll definitely be returning. The Benedicts were great, and the cheesy potatoes were delicious!
Excellent meal and experience last night. I'm from Wisconsin and the menu made me feel right at home. Decor great. Service very friendly. Can't wait to get back to try the fish fry, prime rib, pot pie, pot roast....and more.
The food here is very good and the portions are generous, as expected with Syrup being the sister restaurant. The atmosphere is laid back and pleasant. Overall a really nice spot with a unique name, great food and a fair price point. The outdoor seating is also a nice bonus.
