Brazen Open Kitchen - Dubuque

Have loved Brazen for years, but the latest menu(2024) has just 1 vegan option, butternut squash, which we did not like

Let us start by saying we're happy that there was a vegan pizza on the menu. However, that is the only vegan option on the menu during our visit (Sept 2021). The restaurant has a clever menu, and I think they could develop more vegan options. It's the type of place you would expect something fun and unique. It is a seasonal menu so perhaps this was the only option at the time of our visit. They did offer a vegan chocolate cake at the time which was unexpected

My partner and I went here to celebrate my birthday. We got the two vegan dishes. We did not like the flatbread/pizza. It was trying really hard to be fresh and herby but it missed the mark. With the kale and the apple it was oddly sweet but also maybe bitter? The polenta soup was great in comparison; I would get it again! They only had one vegan dessert option but it was tasty!

I’ve eaten at Brazen a handful of times (for special occasions, as it is expensive) and have enjoyed every vegan special I’ve tried, from risotto to polenta to gnocchi to pizza. Dishes are made from scratch and are a thoughtful combination of flavors and ingredients that are sourced locally. I recently tried their vegan chocolate cake and it was the best chocolate cake I’ve ever had. They offer a variety of creative cocktails as well. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the available vegan options. Offerings change seasonally and are not always listed online, so call to ask what the current vegan options are.

When I get to town, Brazen is always a must for me! The food is always amazing, I love that they constantly change their menu very season, it shows what a talented chef Kevin his team are. The vibes are amazing, and I also had a delicious drink there. Shoutout to our amazing waitress Christina for such a good care of us!!
