Lamoon; As I continue my mission of reviewing the best Thai restaurants in NYC, following some glowing reviews on the NYTimes and The infatuation, I braved my way into Elmhurst Queens. (Definitely not an easy feat by any means… . Lamoon specialized in NorthernThai cuisine and has some unusual interesting offers on its menu. Having a lovely conversation about my Thai food obsession with the owner; chef Arada Moonroj, I ordered the Jackfruit salad and the Spine Soup. Both different then my usual order, and packing some complex rich and layered flavors. From The infatuation: Leng Soup What you’re looking at here is a massive pile of pork spine in a thin, citrusy broth with the amount of parsley, chives and green chili you’d apply to a dish if a cookbook said to “make it rain.” You pick up the bones and eat them like ribs (there are wet naps on the side , and the tender meat falls right off the bone. This is our go-to order at Lamoon, and, as long as you enjoy spicy things, it should be yours as well. Jackfruit Salad This is a salad in the sense that egg salad is a salad, and we’re very ok with this. The jackfruit is soft and warm, with ground pork, tomatoes, and chopped herbs, like chives and lemongrass, mixed in. We usually prefer the Nam Prik Ong (it has a little more spice and flavor , but this is still a good way to start your meal.
I found the foods are fantastic and so delicious. It's reasonable price. Nice and clean. Still has Covid-19 screening. Shield divided between tables. Also provide alcohol gel every tables. If you love North Thai foods, I suggest to check at Lamoon. Try kanom Jean Nam ngew and mango with six colors of sticky rice.
Update: they will be closing end of August and reopening as a bbq spot in another month or so. LOVE their Thai ice tea. Their spicy dishes are fine if you are used to spicy food, it's not crazy. Awesome customer service! Leng Soup is amazing Fried chicken is fresh and crispy Khao Soi is good spicy coconut curry
