Ruca Mahuida - El Chaltén

Very friendly service and good food for reasonable price. There were, I think, a local group of people celebrating while we went there, always a good sign. Food was good, we took pasta and goulash and both were very nice. Cozy atmosphere.

Imaginative toppings, definitely not at all stingy. Will split toppings on a single pizza which is as well as even after a massive walk, my wife and I were not able to finish a single pizza. Friendliest service in Argentina to date.

This was a very nice restaurant with a beautiful setting. A beautiful dining room with lots of atmosphere. The food we had was excellent and we very much enjoyed the experience.

For the quality you get in this town, I'd say this is a great bet for your money. We ate at 3 restaurants in El Chalten. In terms of value for the money, I would say Ruca Mahuida was the best, then El Muro, and with La Tapera trailing pretty far behind. I base it on the fact we got lomo at all three and they were the same price (130 pesos). However, the quality of the meat, other ingredients, cooking, and taste put the first two way ahead the third and made Ruca Mahuida the clear first for us. Ruca Mahuida's tenderloin with mushroom risotto were delightful and the only dish that made my taste buds sing in this town. I wish I could remember the sauce because we loved it! And the cut of meat was of the highest quality and the most generous portion. I would describe this restaurant as French treatment of local ingredients. That might account for the criticism that it's too fussy or expensive. However, it didn't seem fussy to me since I love French food and sauces and appreciated the variation on just merely being served a big hunk of meat. In addition to the lomo, we also had smoked trout and smoked salmon for an appetizer and entrecot for our second main. The dishes all looked appealing and tasted even better. The service was also the friendliest of the three. The ambiance is that of a charming wooden house and more upscale and quiet than the other two places. If you're looking to be more rowdy and boisterous, I'd say go elsewhere. However, if you're looking for a quiet, good meal, I highly recommend this place. I wish we had eaten here our first night instead of our last because we would have returned all 3 nights. This restaurant is not on the main street, but it was worth the extra few minutes to walk there.
