El Maguey Mexican - Excelsior Springs

Terrible food, restaurant wasn't busy and the service was slow. The lettuce served in my meal was not fresh- but past date and limp. I would not recommend eating there.

The food was good and reasonably priced, but there were several issues with my order. They mixed up my drink order and then, even after I took a minute to explain how I wanted my food, they still got it wrong. When my original order arrived, it still had tomatoes and beans on it, despite my requests.

This restaurant has a strong local following, but as a local myself, I can't say I share the enthusiasm. Unfortunately, this has some of the worst food I've ever encountered. The chili relleno tasted like it was smothered in Ragu, the beans had the texture of brown lard, and the taco shells were clearly from a box. The meat lacked flavor, and the lettuce was wilted. I truly enjoy Mexican cuisine and have a favorite spot that my husband and I adore. We decided to give this place a shot, but we won’t be returning. Honestly, you'd be better off going to Taco Bell down the street; their food is far superior!

The menu is extensive and offers a variety of options. The service was friendly and prompt. The chips were served warm, which was a nice touch. I really enjoyed my grilled chicken with chorizo; it was excellent.
