Bidra med feedbackThe Dotta Galla Hotel, also known as the Dout, is an old-timey sort of pub that serves good beer and good food. The staff are friendly and the decorations make you feel at home. I have been here several times and I have always enjoyed...the experience, it's a comfortable place. It's a busy place on race days at Flemington.
I went to the Dout last night. If you haven't booked you can guarantee you won't get a seat and you will be treated like scum for not booking. I saw multiple people being fended off by the new officious manager. He doesn't seem to...understand the iconic history of the pub let alone the fabric and fibre of the rich Flemington community. ?Sydney. He seems deeply frustrated for some unknown reason. I can only imagine the turmoil the waiters and chefs have to endure on a daily basis. It's a pity because the steaks are really quite nice but the way that they are delivered to your table by management does something to it, casting doubt in your mind about whether you chose the right place. I was there at the end of the night and saw a frankly amusing scene where a punter tried the impossible of ordering a beer minutes before closing. He was so livid he was obviously compelled to film the management at closing time. Needless to say everyone was rushed off with minimal notice. Don't managers comprehend that the reason you go to pubs is to enjoy yourself, not to be looked at as an ATM cash cow/magic pudding, which as previous reviewers have noted charged exorbitant fees? Also, remember to be cashed up because they conveniently charge you fees for using your card over the counter (there is a good ATM over the road for which you will incur no fees). Great food, lovely waiters, but zero charisma by management. Good luck to the staff doing it tough. But next time I will be going elsewhere.
This is a very large pub near Newmarket railway station. They had a good selection of beers and the food was very tasty. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There was live music playing on one of our trips (pretty good too). The pub...feels very like a classic UK pub.
The outside is deceiving, its quite a trendy place inside. Good bar, music or live DJ's, decent food. Obviously busy on race days.
As my best friend and I have both lost our Dad's we decided to take our Mum's for Fathers Day Lunch. I hadn't eaten here in years so was a bit skeptical, well wasn't I more than pleasantly surprised. The food was fabulous and...the staff are great. Good atmosphere and they had a guy singing who was a great singer but had a sense of humor as well. Will enjoy it better when there aren't as many kids running around, but will definitely have a next time and will not be waiting years.
