Bidra med feedbackToday we were able to visit the rebuilt Goetheturm on the southern outskirts of Frankfurt Sachsenhausen. A climbing was not possible because the tower is not yet open. The opening hours of the tower: 1 April to 31 October daily from 08.00 hrs to the dark, but not later than 20.00 hrs. There is also a bicycle rental and a small snack bar nearby. At least one could walk a bit in the Stadwald and on the playgrounds. The playground immediately at the tower is unfortunately a bit lost, little well maintained and partly blocked by building fences due to the construction dueness. It remains the hope that before a great opening ceremony the city will make it so much more inviting. The playground at the Scheerwald, about a kilometre away, looks more inviting. And now something about the history of the tower: In 1867 there was a 22 meter high wooden tower. This was demolished after the First World War due to construction. In 1931, a new view tower, completely made of wood, was built on the edge of the southern city forest of Sachsenhausen at the Sachsenhäuser Landwehrweg. This tower named after Johann Wolfgang von Goethe had 196 steps and a height of 43.30 meters. He was then an excursion destination for the Frankfurters and the citizens of the surrounding area for many years. In the years 2010 to 2014 the tower was inaccessible and was refurbished. He was open to the public again since April 2014. Unfortunately, this venerable tower became from the 11th to the 12th at night. October 2017 completely destroyed by a fire. Whether you've identified the arsonists, I'm not aware of it, but probably not. The original reconstruction started in November 2019. The city had originally planned to build a so-called barrier-free tower (with elevator). However, in an internet survey by the city there was a clear majority for reconstruction in its original form. Now he looks exactly as before he has a bright color now through the new wood. I estimate that in several 10 years the weather traces and possibly required impregnation measures will lead to the old appearance. And now a few more photos to look at. _____________________________________________________________________ October 2017 so that it has burned completely. He should be completely restored. He was over 40 meters high at that time. In November 2019, the reconstruction of the Goetheturm began after some hin and her. He's supposed to be done by now and he's supposed to look practically like the old one. It wasn't even there yet. I can only evaluate if I visited him after he was restored.
Super beautiful area for a walk!
