Excelente restaurante Descobrimos pratos típicos muito bem preparados a um preço razoável. Ótima recepção, muito sorridente
Disappointing lunch. We chose it because of the outside space and quietness. There was reluctance to share the dishes of the day from the black board (written only in Portuguese) with us tourists. 3 euros for a piece of bread, rather expensive. The sangria too was a disappointment. The octopus salad was okish. I could not recommend this place to tourists.
We visited today. Ordered food. Were Asked if we wanted a full or meia dose. Be sure to order a meia dose). I live on mainland Portugal, and am learning Portuguese. The proprietor I think) advised she would speak in Portuguese, and spoke very quickly I didn’t understand so much at this point). My partner speaks no Portuguese Like many tourists). She kept asking if we wanted a half or full portion. We referred to the blackboard. Our food arrived. I had very tasty chicken, my partner fried salmon. What we had was identical to everyone having the same dish. Imagine our surprise when we were charged €7.50 for a meal quoted as €5, and €9.50, for the other. €2 per chinesa. This is a snack bar, with tasty food. But I felt really disappointed to see what they had done with the Bill. Living in Portugal, I am familiar with meia dose etc. This was a lunch time meal, in a snack bar/ restaurant with a menu do dia, which was what we believed we were ordering from. We referred to it. Be careful, when the proprietor starts pressing about full and half size portion 1/2 size portion is a good size portion, and that which is offered on the menu do dia). The proprietor appeared to speak only Portuguese, which if confused about the menu, may be better to bring a phrase book, or avoid the place. But from observation, what we were served, was identical to what others were eating. Living in Portugal, and having spent the past week in Madeira, I have experienced only kindness, excellent food, and such warmth from the locals. My efforts to speak Portuguese are often met with surprise, and kindness, as everyone speaks English with amazing fluency. The Portuguese are wonderfully kind, and very talented linguists. This meal, was the last one, I had with my boyfriend, who I have not seen for 10 months due to COVID, and us living in different countries. He must return home tonight. So our last meal, was really disappointing, as the sensation of being fleeced, is not a nice one.
Very much recommended, we have found this small restaurant by chance, but twice never dissapointed. Any dishes were yammy, good service too.
