Vientiane Lao Thai - Garden Grove

This charming little strip mall restaurant is a hidden gem. I had no idea it was known for serving the best authentic Lao and Thai cuisine in Orange County. The food is fresh, flavorful, and the service is prompt. We shared the fish cakes, spicy Lao-style papaya salad, grilled chicken skewers, steak salad (nam tok), and a bowl of Kapoon noodles with fish intestine (my personal favorite). I even picked up a crispy fried Thai pepper snack coated in sesame seeds—absolutely delicious! Don’t miss out on this place; it’s truly fantastic!

I can't wait to try more delicious dishes in the future. I was in pure bliss with every bite! Here's what I ordered: Papaya salad jungle style (which had a strong shrimp paste flavor), Lao sausage, pad see ew, lemon fish (which was a bit dry), crispy fried watercress, and Thai crepes with condensed milk. Everything was delicious, but the Thai crepes really stole the show. I had originally wanted the mango with sticky rice, but they had run out, so I opted for the Thai crepes instead. They were heavenly! I haven't had a dessert like that in years. If that were my last bite ever, I could die happy.

If they ask you how spicy you’d like your Larp, you know you’re in for an authentic experience. We ordered Khaopoon, Beef Larp, Jungle Papaya Salad, and Crispy Roasted Rice, all of which were delicious and exceeded our expectations. The restaurant is small, with only six tables, and tends to get quite busy. While it’s not the best spot for large groups, it’s still manageable. Parking can be a challenge since it’s located in a business complex, so it’s a relief just to find a table. I’m confident you won’t be disappointed, and I will definitely return!

Absolutely delicious food here with great service. The team made sure we were well looked after and were very knowledgeable on the ingredients for each dish, also offering different levels of spice to choose from for the dishes with spice. Super impressed top notch, authentic food! Highly recommend the laab (raw beef salad) and the boat noodles
