L'Estanquet - Gardouch

Cold beer in a bottle, and that is as far as it goes. Unfriendly staff, overpriced; typical €15 for a starter, €25 main, €10 dessert, no plat-du-jour.

This was recommended by our guesthouse and we found it to be a charming country place serving typical French provincial food. Not 'gourmet ' but a very enjoyable set menu for a reasonable price.

Friendly and welcoming. Good menu choice but I had the worst confit de Canard I have ever had. I could not cut it with a steak knife and even had trouble with my fingers and teeth. The rest of my group had the fish. That would have been a better choice.

My wife and I had an excellent meal. The food was simple but well cooked and fresh. The service was friendly and reasonably timely. Perhaps a little expensive relative to some of the other good restaurants in the area, but well worth stopping if on the Canal du Midi or taking a detour if not!

During two dinners in one week time, we experienced friendly staff, an idyllic atmosphere, top food, great service and everything fairly priced. All together: good value for money!
