Bidra med feedbackIt's a shame this hasn't been reviewed for few years! We had a lovely meal at the restaurant- we were initially put off by the fact the outside was so close to the road, but actually, this wasn't the case, and we could sit without the passing traffic being an issue. (The inside is lovely, and very traditional- it was just very hot weather when we were there). For such a pork based country, the fish and vegetation options were fantastic and there were lots of vegetables and healthy food to be had, on top of the traditional hog fare! Friendly waiters, delightful local wines (and a vast selection)- a must go.
We went there for my dad's 80th birthday party. We had made reservations, which had gotten lost when we arrived. They put us in one of the adjacent rooms. The room was clean - but we felt like we were on the "back burner" as far as service was concerned. We waited over one hour for our food. I hate to say - it was not worth the wait. The food was good, but nothing outstanding. Prices are ok - staff is very friendly but slow and poorly organized. A bit disappointing experience.
This is a traditional restaurant with good quality food nicely presented. We especially liked the wine list which had @ 25 german wines available by the Viertel (250cl) which gave us the opportunity to experiment.
If you're on holiday in the Black Forest or Freiburg area, and want a hot, well-prepared, delicious meal that smacks of comfort food and home cooking, AND is served up with courtesy and a smile - this is the place to go. Despite the fact that we live just outside Glottertal, it has taken us five years to set foot inside this cosy little restaurant, and now that we have, we will be going back frequently. The interior boasts an old-fashioned tiled heating oven which automatically gives a special warmth. The decor is what you would expect in this area of the Black Forest, but without going over the top. Being Christmas, lots of candles and Christmas decorations and flowers graced the windowsills and tables. The menu, with regional and seasonal specialities, as well as a variety of local wines, offers great value for money. We had the seasonal roast goose, with red cabbage and potato dumplings which were light, fluffy and piping hot, served with lashings of tasty gravy. This choice came with a plentiful starter of 'feldsalat' (lamb's lettuce) lightly dressed and served with slivers of bacon and croutons. We chose a bottle of local red wine to accompany our meal, and topped it off with an espresso. A treat from start to finish, and we recommend it highly.
My husband and I are here recently. A beautiful small courtyard on a summer evening, the perfect environment. We were the only non-German speakers there and fought with the decryption of the menu that was only in German. The salad starter and our main courses were...fine (not exactly what we had imagined, as Google translation is not perfect. But then it was badly downhill. Our waiter ignored us over half an hour and at the end I had to ask the other waitress on the dessert menu. Even then it took a while before our simple ice cream order was taken. Unfortunately, after a further 25 minutes without a sign of our dessert we decided to go. There was no real excuse except to say they were busy!!! Very disappointing....they obviously need to employ more waiting employees. Shame.
