Bidra med feedbackWe arrived without a reservation, although it is recommended, and were lucky enough to secure a table for the three of us. The food was fantastic, with generous portion sizes and a salad and vegetable bar available for those who wanted to enjoy them.
It has been four years since my last review of Birdies Bistro, and I am pleased to say that much has changed. The previous owners have retired, but the new owners have not only maintained the high standards of the restaurant but have also improved them. I recently dined there with my daughter and her husband and enjoyed the Wednesday night special of 3 courses for $23, which was incredible value. There were around 8 main courses and a half dozen desserts to choose from, as well as a bowl of soup. Every dish we tried was outstanding, and it is impressive how such high-quality meals are produced in the small and basic kitchen of a golf club. The Goolwa to Victor Harbour area does not have many quality dining options, so I highly recommend visiting South Lakes Golf Club on a Wednesday or Friday evening, or for Sunday lunch for a pleasant surprise.
Birdies is a popular spot for Goolwa locals to gather for dinner on Wednesday nights. For $20 per person, diners can enjoy a three-course meal that includes soup (no choice), a main course with up to 8 options, and dessert with up to 5 choices. The menu changes weekly and also includes self-serve salads, hot vegetables, and bread. The service is efficient and the staff are welcoming. It is recommended to make a reservation in advance as the restaurant tends to fill up quickly. There is plenty of parking available and visitors to the town are encouraged to dine at Birdies, no membership to the golf club is necessary.
My husband and I went to Birdies Restaurant in The South Lakes Gulf Club in April. We had a three course, home style meal for $18 which consisted of pumpkin soup, followed by the roast of the day with fresh vegetables, and finished off with sticky date pudding and custard. (Yum!! There are a number of different choices for mains on the menu. It's great value and usually served with a smile too! Being local, we quite often go there. The three course meal is always available on a Wednesday night, making it a popular spot for visitors and locals alike, so it is wise to make a booking. I believe there is a roast night with a choice beef, pork and lamb held on the 4th Friday of every month which I've heard is delicious we haven't sampled that one yet! The menu is a la carte on that evening I believe. Wine by the glass or bottle is also available. The toilet facilities are good. There is wheelchair access via a gentle ramp into the Restaurant. Pokies are also available if you want to try your luck.
We have had a holiday house in Goolwa for many years and this is our favourite eating house in the area by a country mile The restaurant is set in the South Lakes Golf Club Goolwa and is run by a delightful couple namely Joy front of house) and Tim who attends to the culinary side of things The restaurant is not open every day it's main trading hours being Wednesday ,Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday lunch it overlooks the golf course and offers great views of the fairways Food is much better than standard pub fare with an adequate choice on offer on Wednesdays there is also a fixed three course meal on offer for $17 per head small but tasty serves and great value Drinks are purchased from the golf club bar and are extremely good value If you want silver service at greatly inflated prices don't go there if however you appreciate tasty well cooked food better than Mum made) then it's well worth a visit
