Lake Michigan Sports - Grand Rapids

On Thursday night, we decided to check out the restaurant since they claimed to have an awesome new cook. Unfortunately, when the food arrived, it was a major disappointment. To start with, the onion rings were so overcooked that they were nearly impossible to break apart. When they dropped onto the plate, they literally shook the table. The onion inside was so overdone that it crumbled and was unrecognizable. I ordered a burger with BBQ sauce and bacon, which looked enormous until I realized it was mostly stuffed with a pickle. The buns were cold and hadn’t even been warmed on the grill, which is typically a basic step for any cook. I wasn't asked how I wanted the burger cooked, and what I received was a patty that could only be described as medium-rare with a side of rare; definitely not what I expected. The fries were cold, and some looked like they had been leftover from days ago, as if they hadn't been cleaned properly in a long time. Another person in our group ordered a chicken wrap, but it was nothing but chicken and an overwhelming amount of Parmesan cheese—no lettuce or veggies at all. I had to ask for some lettuce to make it somewhat edible. Overall, it was a huge letdown. We didn’t voice our complaints at the time since we knew the owner was away, and honestly, we felt that complaining would have little effect given the quality of food we received. I later looked at their Facebook posts, which featured pictures of the food. Many of the images seemed to be taken from the internet, and even the in-restaurant photos looked appealing at first glance. However, zooming in on the onion ring images revealed just how overcooked everything was. We’ve visited this place several times in the past, each time lowering our expectations because we understand it’s bar food, but this was by far the worst experience I've had with bar food. It fell significantly short of my already tempered expectations. Maybe the issues stem from staffing problems or the owner's absence; who knows? If you decide to go, perhaps it’s best to do so after a few drinks to keep your expectations low!

The quality of their food has definitely improved. However, the salsa tends to vary each time we go, although it's usually quite good. We're big fans of salsa! The atmosphere is pleasant, and the staff is friendly.

Easy to see why it's a local favorite. Great prices, great food, great drinks and great service. No brainer!
