Kroll's East - Green Bay

This restaurant is like a time machine; once you step inside, you’re transported back to 1967. The butter burgers are incredibly juicy, the onion rings are phenomenal, and the Blatz beer is ice cold. Alright, maybe it was actually Miller Lite, but regardless, this place is a treasure. It's clearly a beloved local spot that has stayed the same since Vince Lombardi used to drop by after practice.

Kroll's East feels like a time capsule with its various dining spaces and ample seating. It's definitely a beloved local spot well-known to residents. The burgers feature thin, old-fashioned 1/4 pound patties that, despite their small size, are surprisingly juicy and have a nice char flavor. They come wrapped, which doesn't do much for their presentation, but it's clear they're infused with buttery goodness. All burgers are cooked to medium due to their slim profile. We particularly enjoyed the garlic cheese curd cubes—definitely opt for the larger portion. The fries are large and crispy, as are the homemade onion rings. The staff here is friendly and accommodating. Each booth has a button to press when you're ready to order, adding a fun touch reminiscent of drive-in dining rather than typical bar food. That said, there's also a cool semi-Art Deco bar area with a complete bar. The restaurant could benefit from a little updating, but the booths and nostalgic elements are wonderful. They have a bustling drive-up service on one side, but for dining in, be sure to enter through the back door.

I've visited this restaurant three times in the past two weeks to give it a fair chance. On my first two visits, I only tried the soup, which was quite good both times. Today, I took my daughter with me, and she ordered a burger while I went for their nacho special. Unfortunately, my daughter was left disappointed as her burger had a very small patty and was mostly just bun. As for my nachos, they were rather lackluster. Additionally, it was quite off-putting to have the server hovering over me while I was trying to pay, watching me enter my tip on the credit card slip. Who does that? Apparently, they do. Overall, I can only recommend this place for the soup.
