Bidra med feedbackMassive portions and really good quality food. The perfect place for a spot of lunch before a leisurely walk in the wonderful surroundings. Very busy so might be worth booking in advance.
Excellent friendly service with a smile. Was busy but nothing was any trouble. Coffee was excellent and hot definitely visit again.
We are frequent visitors over many years and also visit the Dabbling Duck. The service last weekend was really poor. We weren't offered a menu/or welcomed at all. We had to get our own menus. I ordered 2 portions of chips and specified that each of my children would have the chips, they arrived on one plate. Our server did not look happy about having to get another plate. We were not offered any condiments, we had to get our own. No one asked us if the food was okay or if we needed to order anymore drinks. Everyone seemed to be abandoned outside after they had ordered their mains. For the prices of the mains it would have been nice to be offered some tap water. Obviously we had to go in to get our bill as no one would have asked us if we wanted it. Then the sting of having a nearly £5 service charge automatically added to my bill. I have definitely been when you have been busier, there were surplus ladies standing around the kitchen area looking lost and bored. I sent an email to the manager last week and no response.
First visit to this place, when we arrived we waited outside by the sign to be seated and chose to seat in the garden. It is in a lovely location with great views. It was early afternoon so we told the waitress we were there for tea and cake, she brought us the menu and there were no cakes in it so we chose to have a scone each. In handsight, we should have asked about the cakes but as we explained that we were there for tea and cake I thought mistakenly that there were none! I did wonder if we missed the cakes in the menu, but it wasn't that big. A friendly person brought us a large teapot of tea and plenty of milk, unfortunately, my cup was dirty, with tea in it! She was very apologetic and brought another teacup that was clean, but it wasn't pleasant to be given a dirty cup. The scones were ok, the cream did not taste great, I am not sure if it was clotted cream but I did not like it or tasted like what I know as clotted cream The jam was nice. When we were ready to leave, I walked inside to pay only to realise that there were loads of cakes!! I wonder why the waitress did not tell us about it, I think she assumed we had been there before. I paid around £16 for a pot of tea and 2 sconnes which was ok but all in all, the service was very poor.
Visited for lunch after walking at Newlands Corner which is just across the road. A nice sit down alternative to the 'window service only ' place in Newlands Corner car park. The welcome and service was excellent, the food was good. Lunch menu consists mainly of hot/cold sandwiches and burgers. Slightly expensive for what it is £3.40 for tea with oat milk and £16 for a burger with fries, £5.50 for small portion of sweet potato fires. £8 for a childs meal plus £2 for a small carton of kids juice, so essentially a tenner per child. We sat inside and our visit was spoiled somewhat by multiple wasps landing on our food several times. They have wasp traps outside but we didn 't spot anything to deal with this problem inside. We may have been unlucky, but they could do with doing more to address this problem in the summer. We 'd return.
