Bidra med feedbackService was first rate and the food was generally delicious. Everyone had to pre order and pre pay, so it was a really nice touch that the place cards not only had the names but also on the underside were the menu choices for each person. The Festive Menu food was well presented and generally, the food was tasty and adequate. It was nice, for instance, that the carrots were not over cooked and had plenty of flavour. One diner felt that the turkey was a bit lacking in flavour, but she is a Cordon Bleu. There also seemed to be an issue that the stuffing balls appeared to be something like pork stuffing, not the anticipated sage and onion, although the menu only said stuffing anyway. Those who had the gilt head bream felt that the portion size was a bit on the small side unlike ordering bream in Greece, where you get the whole fish! As ever, the chefs handled special dietary requirements with perfect attention to detail, with exclusions and substitutions accordingly. I'd certainly be glad to repeat and to recommend the venue and the Festive Menu. We have often eaten here and never been disappointed, usually just as a couple or small groups, so it was interesting to see how efficient the catering was for the 40 50 party size.
We have eaten dinner here on a few occasions previously, but not in the last few years. We were very much looking forward to our indulgent treat of dinner at the Castle. However, this time it was quite a big dissapointment. Firstly, the atmosphere of the conservatory dining area totally lacked ambience, no back ground music, very brightly lit and not very festive. We felt like we had to talk quietly as we could hear other diners too clearly, and we heard probably a little too much 'banter ' coming from the kitchen. I did comment to our waiter that it was very quiet and hinted that some form of music would be nice but nothing changed. Our menu choice was acceptable, but very costly to then add on side orders of vegetables. In all honesty the portion sizes were alot smaller than previous visits. One final issue.... we all have the ability to make our own choices and decisions please let the customer know that service charge is already applied to their bill, and confirm they are happy with this beforehand.
The meal was delicious and the service was excellent, so I give it top marks. However, I was disappointed that a 10% tip was automatically added to our bill without informing us. I hope that the staff receive this tip in full and that the company does not deduct any taxes from it.
We visited this restaurant for the first time in several years and it lived up to our expectations. The staff were friendly, charming, and professional. The food was excellent. My starter of burrata with Waldorf salad was small but perfect for a 3-course meal. I wish I had ordered the cauliflower soup like my friends did, as it looked wonderful and the accompanying beignet was heavenly. For mains, my friends all had roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, and tender beef cooked to perfection. I opted for the gilt head bream, which was cooked perfectly with a crispy skin and served with tenderstem broccoli and delicious cubes of beetroot gnocchi. The vegetable accompaniments were also very tasty. For dessert, I had the treacle tart with Penderyn whisky ice cream which was amazing. The total bill for 4 people, including drinks and service charge, was £186. We enjoyed catching up with friends and appreciated the relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant. Despite my initial concerns, this restaurant exceeded my expectations and we will definitely be returning soon.
Booked the 3 course lunch menu as it was great value considering the complimentary entrance tickets. Overall it was a great experience. From being welcomed at reception to the end of the meal the service was fantastic and deserved the service charge, no problems in paying it for us. The food was top class
