Ko-Doraku - Halifax

I was in Japan for 5 yrs. Folks, this restaurant is the real deal. The believe is that the rice makes or breaks sushi. Ko-Do's rice preparation and texture is perfection. The owner/chef and staff, who are Japanese, are so welcoming you feel at home. They have a beautiful Japanese dining area and have alcohol available including Sake. Simply the best.

I never even heard of Ko-Doraku until I started working in the business tower next to it. It is the best sushi in Halifax, hands down. I have only been to the 1949 Upper Water St. location, but the staff are so friendly and genuine that it makes the experience that much better. It is also cheep too! The Kodoraku roll, the Yoga roll and the Chicken Udon are my favourite! Everyone in my office loves going here for lunch!

Pleasantly impressed! grabbed a few items for lunch, spicy sushi, salmon, yoga and miso soup! The chef was so quick, the food so fresh and am very impressed. I too like the warm rice, delicious! Would definitely go back!! Falling in love with Halifax!!

I must say this sushi is "sushi" I recommend to people as a Japanese person. I have visited some Japanese restaurants in Nova Scotia, but most of them are not authentic. If you are looking for real sushi for very reasonable price, Ko-Doraku is the place to go. It's a eat-in or takeout place now, so good for lunch or takeout dinner. I recommend to get combos (with salad) they have. If you have $10, you will be stuffed.

This little place is unassumingly tucked in the bottom floor food court of Spring Garden Place. One of the few sushi restaurants in the city that is staffed by Japanese cooks, Ko-Doraku offers quick and affordable high-quality sushi. What their menu lacks in breadth compared to larger restaurants, they more than make for in quality. There is not much that can compare to their freshly-rolled sushi with still-warm rice. They make a good salad, and also offer a variety of beverages (including Calpico). We have been often going here for lunch for several years and they have always been consistently excellent.
