Bidra med feedbackWe were in Halifax for two nights and ate dinner here on both od them. It was that good. I found out about Le Bistro from a woman working at the Tourust Information office on the waterfeont who said it was her personal favorite in the area near the Public Garden where we were staying. The restaurant is located on the first floor of a high rise so might not be noticed by the passerby. There is a small Eiffel Tower outside and that is a good clue about what is within. Inside there are twinkle lights and red umbrellas creating a fun, relaxed and potentially romantic atmosphere. We had two excellent waiters on our visits who described the food well and had good wine recommendations. ( Try the rose for starters)! We also had two delicious meals - one rainy night boef bourguignon for both of us and the other a delicious seadoof crepe ana a chicken with brie. For dessert I will suggest the gingerbread tower. It is so good and the large size is enough to share! Thanks to the woman who sent us here, to our two lovely servers and to the chef! Gice it a try.
We had a very satisfying family dining experience last night at this quality restaurant in Halifax.Three of us dined on their superb lightly grilled haddock. Our family visitor said her Digby scallops were excellent and our grandaughter was very impressed with her onion soup. Our grandson cleaned out his bowl of pasta. The delicious apple crumble with vanilla ice cream made me forget calories for the evening. The others chose lemon meringue dessert which brought looks of total satisfaction to their faces. The server was outstanding:highly competent and very pleasant. The restaurant offers a beautiful view of trees and flowers just outside their large windows. We dined from 6PM and avoided any parking problems.
The fresh bread they start you with is amazing. One of the guests at our table is vegetarian and they made a wonderful dish that was not even on the menu. The beef bourguignon was absolutely wonderful. There was so much food that we were unable to eat dessert, although we looked over the dessert menu and decided we need a visit of dessert and coffee only.
We were in town to check out the buskers. We love french food so we decided to check it out. The menu was half Italian, half French and for some reason there was a club sandwich as an option. Service was great. Our server was funny and great which compared to the food was dismal. I had a beef bourguignon which resembled puppy chow. Tasted ok at best. Lacked beef and was just mostly potato.A beef bourguignon should resemble colorful beef stew Not the slop mixture I received. My friend had the Coquilles St Jacque which looked like it was from 1988. Potatoes definitely came from a piping bag.She said it tasted ok but was majorly under seasoned. The chef must smoke is my only conclusion for under seasoning, What a joke of a french inspired restaurant. we'll go to the other french resto in the city later this weekend, Bistro Le Coq, to compare but this place was 2/10 and the 2 was for the service.
The interior of the restaurant is very attractive with a French garden feel. Service was very good as was the food. Where the restaurant could perhaps improve most was the wine list. We tried three wines - one was bad, the other two drinkable but not worth the prices charged (11-12$/glass).
